Bölükbaş, Mehmet; Topal, Mehmet Hanefi; Hotunluoğlu, Hakan
Twin deficits hypothesis has been one of the most widely-applied phenomenon in the economics literature. In this study, the twin deficits hypothesis was tested for the EU-27 member states and Turkey with the data covering the 2002:Q1-2014:Q1 period. Unlike other studies, the twin deficits hypothesis was tested by using second generation panel causality tests that considered the cross-sectional dependence. According to the findings of this study, which used panel Granger causality tests suggested by Dumitrescu-Hurlin (2012) and Emirmahmutoğlu-Kose (2011), there is statistically significant bidirectional causality between budget deficit (BD) and current account deficit (CAD) in the relevant period. It was found out a bidirectional causality between BD and CAD in sixteen of the twenty-eight countries (Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Netherlands, Romania, Spain, Turkey and the UK) and a unidirectional causality from BD to CAD was also noticed in five EU countries (Cyprus, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland and Slovakia). Nevertheless, the findings indicated that there is a unidirectional causality from CAD to BD in Hungary, Luxembourg and Malta but there is no causality between BD and CAD in Ireland, Portugal, Slovenia, and Sweden.

- MakaleYalnız künye2017Scopus SJRQ1Nothing is more important than my partner's health: Turkish men's perspectives on partner's appearance after mastectomy and alopecia
Gürsoy, Ayla; Koçan, Sema; Aktuğ, Cemile
Purposes The aim of this study was to acquire a deeper understanding of male experiences on the emotional and social impact of their partners’ mastectomy and chemotherapy-induced alopecia. Methods A purposive sample of 16 males whose partners had undergone mastectomy and alopecia due to chemotherapy was chosen. The data were collected through a semi-structured interview method. Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis of tape-recorded interviews was employed. Results Two main themes emerged from the data: facing the changes and my wife and I at present. Male partners were affected differently by the change in the physical appearance of their female partners. Our study participants said it was a difficult experience to see their partners for the first time after the surgery, but they emphasized that it was more important that their partners were healthy than the fact that they did not have a breast and hair. They also said they did not know how to behave towards their partners after surgery and/or chemotherapy. Nevertheless, they felt that the disease process of their partners had strengthened their bond and had not negatively influenced their relationship with others. Conclusions The changes in the partners’ physical appearance after mastectomy and chemotherapy affected males differently in psychological, emotional and social terms. Since nurses working in this field are in contact with patients during all phases of treatment and care, it would be positive and beneficial to plan nursing interventions that give emotional support for male partners of patients with breast cancer.

In this work, we consider an inverse elliptic problem with Bitsadze-Samarskii type multipoint nonlocal and Neumann boundary conditions. We construct the first and second order of accuracy difference schemes (ADSs) for problem considered. We stablish stability and coercive stability estimates for solutions of these difference schemes. Also, we give numerical results for overdetermined elliptic problem with multipoint Bitsadze-Samarskii type nonlocal and Neumann boundary conditions in two and three dimensional test examples. Numerical results are carried out by MATLAB program and brief explanation on the realization of algorithm is given.

- BildiriAçık Erişim2018Daily and monthly module temperature variation for 9 different modules
Özden, Talat; Tolgay, Doga; Akinoglu, Bulent G.
One of the main parameter affecting the efficiency of PV modules is the module temperature. In this respect, outdoor testing of modules is very important to determine the temperature dependent performances and degradation rates. In this work, we analyzed the module temperatures of 9 different modules tested in the outdoor testing facility of METU-GUNAM, Ankara (latitude ∼40°N, in Central Anatolia and the climate is dry continental). The tested module types are two CIS (identical), one μc-Si/a-Si, one Poly-Si, three Mono-Si (two identical), one HIT and one bifacial. The module temperatures can reach up to 76°C while the ambient is around 39 °C during summer days. Monthly average module temperatures can reach up to 33.7°C (CIS) while the monthly average ambient is at 26.0°C and drops down to 1 °C while average ambient temperature is about the same as average module temperature. The results showed that the monthly averages of module temperatures differences are maximum during summer (∼3.5°C) and minimum during winter (1.1°C). It is interesting that the two CIS modules have the highest monthly average module temperature and although they are supposed to be identical their temperatures differ significantly. Bifacial and HIT module temperatures are lower than the Mono-Si modules. One of the two identical Mono-Si modules was not cleaned and its module temperature is always lower than the one that was cleaned periodically, as expected. In this work, we also present the results and discussions on the spatial variations of measured module temperatures of PV panels.

Maden, N.
The Black Sea is a marginal sea represented by the Caucasus to the east, by the Balkanides-Pontides to the south and southwest, the Crimean Mountains to the north, and young platforms (Moesian and Scythian) to the west and northwest. The Black Sea basin is divided into two parts, Western and Eastern, separated by the Mid Black Sea ridge. The origin of the eastern Black Sea basin and Pontides orogenic belt is still controversial due to lack of systematical geological, geophysical and geochemical data. It is widely accepted that the eastern Pontides orogenic belt was shaped by northward subduction of Neotethys or Paleotethys oceanic lithosphere during the late Mesozoic and the Black Sea basin opened as a back-arc basin behind the eastern Pontides magmatic arc. In this study, the tectonic elements of the Black Sea basin are investigated by using satellite gravity data. The time of formation of Black Sea basin occurred from Paleozoic to Mesozoic, showing the Black Sea is a remnant of the Paleotethys Ocean. The numerical studies give the indication of southward subduction model for the origin of the Pontides during late Mesozoic-Cenozoic and compressional tectonic regime is still active in the Eastern Black Sea region.

Ilyasoglu, H.
A structured lipid (SL) constituting omega fatty acids was synthesized by using linseed and grape seed oils as substrates via a lipase-catalyzed reaction. Lipozyme® TL IM was used as a biocatalyst. Good quadratic models predicting the incorporation of omega fatty acids were achieved via the Response surface methodology (RSM). The optimal conditions for targeted omega-6/omega-3 fatty acid ratio (2:1) were obtained at a substrate molar ratio 1.4, time 8.4 h, and enzyme amount 6.4%. The SL contained linoleic acid (43 g 100g-1), which was mainly located in the sn-2 position (40 g 100g-1). α-Linoleic acid, and α-linolenic acid at the sn-2 position were 22 g 100g-1, and 11 g 100g-1, respectively. The oxidative stability of the SL, and SL with antioxidants was also investigated. The produced SL may be proposed as a source of a balanced intake of omega fatty acids and an ingredient in functional food formulations.

Aktaş, I.
In this study, by using the Hadamard product representation of the hyper- Bessel function and basic concepts in mathematics we investigate the sign of the hyper- Bessel function x → J αd (x) on some sets. Also, we show that the function x → J αd (x) is a decreasing function on [0, J αd ,1), and the function is an increasing function on (0,∞), where j αd ,1 and II αd denote the first positive zero of the function J αd (x) and modified hyper-Bessel function, respectively. In addition, we prove the strictly log-concavity of the functions J αd (x) and J αd (x) on some sets. Moreover, we give some illustrative examples regarding our main results.

Cakmak, R.; Altas, I.H.
Demand side management is one of the key issues in smart electrical grid studies. Power demand of consumers can be managed via demand response(DR) programs. Task scheduling (TS) based demand response is one of the DR schemes. Objective of the TS approach is to schedule activation time of the appropriate time-shiftable loads to reduce power consumption in peak-demand hours. Heuristic optimization methods can be used to provide this objective. Symbiotic Organisms Search (SOS) and Cuckoo Search (CS) algorithms are two of the most recent heuristic methods. In this paper, scheduling of the time-shiftable home appliances executed by SOS and CS algorithms. Time-shiftable home appliances of the consumers and run time tolerances of them aggregated by mini public survey to achieve results which close to reality. Obtained results are indicated the superiority of the SOS algorithm and demonstrated the positive effects of the demand side management on the electrical grid.

- BildiriYalnız künye2017Detecting and removing repetitive errors from PPP time series by means of adaptive filter
Yalvaci, Sefa; Ustun, Aydin; Berber, Mike Mustafa
PPP (Precise Point Positioning) is a relatively new GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) method that enables position determinations using a single receiver. Being able to survey with a single receiver makes this approach more attractive and affordable than other GNSS positioning techniques. Since a single receiver is used, a drawback of this technique is propagation of errors such as orbit and clock uncertainties, atmospheric disturbances etc. Due to these errors, precision of point positioning may reach up to decimeter levels. Fortunately, some of these error sources such as orbital errors, multipath etc. are repetitive errors and therefore can be detected by using digital filters. Adaptive noise canceling filters are used to detect the correlated part of the time series. These filters optimize themselves using the Least Mean Square (LMS) algorithm which is a powerful tool for Geosciences and are also used for many engineering applications. In this study, it is aimed to detect repetitive errors on coordinate time series by using adaptive noise canceling filter. For the application, four stations have been selected from NGS CORS (National Geodetic Survey Continuously Operating Reference Station) network. Two of these stations are highly affected by multipath error and the other two are not. The coordinate time series of the GNSS sites have been obtained using PPP technique on kinematic mode (epoch by epoch) for several consecutive days. The cross-correlation analysis has been performed and up to 92% correlation has been detected between the daily time series. The correlated part of the data set has been captured by means of adaptive noise canceling filter and removed from the data set. After the filtration process, up to 50% precision improvement has been achieved on coordinate time series, especially for the stations affected by multipath.

Das, Huseyin; Tarim, B.; Demir, S.; Küçükkent, N.; Cengiz, S.; Tülek, E.; Aksakal, V.
Atak-S laying hens are a high-performance hybrid obtained by crossing of the Rhode Island Red (RIR) X the Barred Plymouth Rock (BR) and are being produced in the Ankara Poultry Research Institute since 1997. Phenotypic and genetic improving studies are continuous for this hybrid. In this study three different SNPs, two from IGF1 and one from IGFBP2 genes, were examined in 150 Atak-S chickens. Genetic association of SNPs were compared to body weight and egg number till 32 weeks of age, body weight at sexual maturity, age at sexual maturity and also egg quality traits such as egg shell breaking strength, shell thickness, Haugh unit, albumen index, yolk index and shape index were statistically analyzed. Only IGF1(a) locus was in agreement with Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium, while, the rest of the loci were not. As a result of the comparisons performed to the three SNPs, it was determined that there was a significant association (P < 0.05) between the T364C haplotypes of the IGF1(b) locus and body weight at 32 weeks of age, but there was not any association to the other traits.

Ashyralyyev, Charyyar
This paper is devoted to a Bitsadze-Samarskii type overdetermined multipoint nonlocal boundary value problem (NBVP). This inverse problem is reduced to an auxiliary multipoint NBVP. Stability estimates for the solution of the auxiliary NBVP are established. The finite difference method is applied to get the first and second order of accuracy of approximate solutions of the abstract overdetermined problem. Stability estimates for the solution of difference problems are proved. Then the established abstract results are applied to get stability estimates for the solution of the Bitsadze-Samarskii type overdetermined elliptic multidimensional differential and difference problems with multipoint nonlocal boundary conditions (NBVC). Finally, numerical results with explanation on the realization for two dimensional and three dimensional elliptic overdetermined multipoint NBVPs in test examples are presented.

Yilmaz, Cemil; Kandemir, Raif
The Gümüşhane Mesozoic Basin is characterized by Lower-Middle Jurassic volcanic-siliciclastic sediments (Şenköy Formation), Upper Jurassic-Cenomanian platform carbonates (Berdiga Formation) and Upper Cretaceous turbidites (Kermutdere Formation). Four extensional periods (Lias-Dogger, Turonian-Coniacian, Late Campanian (?) and Early (?) Maastrichtian) separated by two quiet tectonic periods (early Malm-Cenomanian and Santonian-Campanian) have been defined in this sequence. The previous studies suggested that Mesozoic basins only formed by extensional movements in the middle Cretaceous. Three extensional periods seperated by two quiet periods from the Cenomanian to the end of the Maastrichtian in Gümüşhane and NE Turkey were firstly proved by sedimentological findings in this study. The definition of these periods depends on features such as (1) neptunian dykes in different levels, (2) shallow marine limestone, (3) thinning-and-fining-upward sequences, (4) mixed faunal assemblages, (5) micro-turbiditic structures, (6) syn-sedimentary fault, (7) grabens, half-grabens, (8) pelagic limestone, (9) calciturbidites, (10) laterally and vertically rapid changes of the thickness and facies, (11) platform-to-basin transition and (12) monogenic breccias.

Karsli, Orhan; Chen, Bin; Uysal, Ibrahim; Aydin, Faruk; Wijbrans, Jan R.; Kandemir, Raif
Whole-rock geochemical and Sr, Nd and Pb isotope data are presented for a representative suite of the Quaternary Erzincan Volcanics (QEV) from the Erzincan basin (EB) along the North Anatolian Fault Zone, aiming to understand their origin and implications for basalt-lower crust interaction. Unspiked K-Ar and 40Ar/39Ar dating of dome lavas from the QEVs yielded ages of 102 ± 2 to 1061 ± 88 ka. The QEVs range from high-K low silica trachy-andesite to rhyolite in composition, with rhyolite volumetrically the most abundant. All rocks show high-K calc-alkaline affinity, a geochemical signature common to many post-collisional magmas. They are characterized by enrichment in LILE (Rb, Ba, K, Th) and LREE ((La/Yb)CN = 3-33), with pronounced depletion of HFSE. All lavas show negligible or small negative Eu anomalies in the andesitic to dacitic and strong Eu anomalies in the rhyolitic samples. These rocks have relatively low 87Sr/86Sr = 0.70404-0.70587 and slightly depleted Nd isotopic compositions (εNd from - 0.9 to 2.8), with significantly varied Mg# ranging from 2 to 53. Pb isotopic compositions [206Pb/204Pb = 18.90-19.02, 207Pb/204Pb = 15.64-15.70, 208Pb/204Pb = 38.91-39.97] reveal an enriched source signature, which implies that some portions of metasomatized lithospheric mantle could have contributed to their genesis. The isotopic ratios and chemical features along with the textural and compositional disequilibrium of the plagioclases and amphiboles suggest that mixing of mafic and felsic magmas played an important role in the magma genesis. A possible scenario for the genesis of these volcanic rocks is that basaltic magma formed as a result of partial melting of a subcontinental lithospheric mantle source responding to a possible upwelling of asthenospheric mantle which was caused by the extension produced by strike-slip tectonics. Underplating of these high-temperature basaltic magmas sparked partial fusion of a juvenile lower continental crust producing felsic melts; then magma mixing between basaltic and the felsic magmas followed. Fractional crystallization, with minor amounts crustal contamination could have played an important role in the evolution of magma. Modelling based on Sr and Nd isotope data shows that less than 10% of a basic magma and about 90% of juvenile lower continental crustal material was involved in the generation of the QEVs in a pull-apart basin along the North Anatolian Fault Zone.

- BildiriYalnız künye2018On the Yearly Performance of a Bifacial PV Module in Central Anatolia - Turkey
Özden, Talat; Turan, Raşit; Aklnoǧlu, Bülent Gültekin
With the tremendous increase in the photovoltaic (PV) power plants world-wide remarkable decreases in their installation prices per watt are attained mainly due to economic scale effect. This brings questioning to increase their energy yields by considering any possible way like fabricating bifacial solar modules. Present study is on the performance analysis of a bifacial PV module using one-year outdoor testing results in Ankara-Turkey. The module performed very well and reached a specific yield value of 1750 kWh/kWp. This value for Central Anatolia region is well above the values predicted (and suggested) by the local authorities. The efficiency and performance ratio variation with respect to ambient and module temperature are obtained. The calculated dependence of efficiency on the module temperature is found to be η=-0.073Tmod+18.05, and the maximum measured module temperature is about 70 °C. The results show that the bifacial modules have the potential to replace the mono facial modules that are now dominating the PV market.

Objective: Cancer is one of the most deadly types of disease and evasion from apoptosis and unstoppable cell proliferation are accepted as its distinctive features. Many studies have evaluated the cytotoxic effect of different Morus species but, there is no study about cytotoxic effect of Morus rubra. In this study we aimed to evaluate phenolic composition, antioxidant properties and cytotoxic effect of acidified dimethyl sulfoxide extract of M. rubra (AMRE). Method: Antioxidant properties, phenolic composition and cytotoxic effect of AMRE were determined using spectrophotometric methods, HPLC, and MTT assay, respectively. Then, mechanisms of cytotoxic effect of AMRE on human prostate (PC-3) and lung (A549) cancer cells were examined in regard to cell cycle, apoptosis and mitochondrial membrane potential using flow cytometric methods. Results: Total phenolic content and reducing power values were 11.9 mg gallic acid equivalents and 42.9 mg trolox equivalents per g sample, respectively. Ascorbic and gallic acid were detected in AMRE as major antioxidant compounds. We determined that AMRE increased cell cycle arrest at G1 phase and exhibited apoptotic features via decreasing mitochondrial membrane potential in both prostate and lung cancer cells. Conclusion: These findings demonstrate that M. rubra extract can affect the behavior of human prostate and lung cancer cells in vitro conditions, and this effect now needs to be investigated in vivo.
