Yıldız Karaahmet, Aysu; Bilgiç, Fatma Şule; Karakaş, Sevda
This study aimed to systematically review and meta-analyze the effects of non-pharmacological treatments on problematic pornography use (PPU), pornography use frequency, sexual dysfunction, psychological symptoms, and quality of life in individuals with PPU. A comprehensive literature search was conducted in PubMed/MEDLINE, Embase, PsycINFO, and Web of Science between June and July 2024. MeSH-based keywords were used to identify relevant Randomized Controlled Trials (RCTs) published in the last ten years. Five RCTs with a total of 826 participants were included. Non-pharmacological interventions significantly reduced PPU (SMD: −1.16; 95% CI: −2.10 to −0.22; p = 0.02) and pornography use frequency (SMD: −0.74; 95% CI: −1.43 to −0.05; p = 0.04) compared to control groups. No statistically significant effects were found for sexual dysfunction (SMD: −0.47; p = 0.05) or psychological symptoms (SMD: −0.42; p = 0.06), though moderate effects were observed. Risk of bias was high or unclear in terms of participant and outcome blinding. Non-pharmacological interventions appear effective in reducing PPU and use frequency. Although effects on sexual function and psychological symptoms were not significant, the findings suggest potential improvements in overall quality of life.

- MakaleAçık Erişim2026Scopus SJRQ2Rethinking sexual response: are erogenous zones—including nipple stimulation—more than secondary stimuli? A meta-analysis
Yildiz Karaahmet, Aysu; Karakas, Sevda; Bilgic, Fatma Sule
Objectives: The nipple, a key erogenous zone in female sexual response, is often insufficiently considered in clinical practice, and scientific studies on nipple stimulation are limited. The aim of this study was to conduct a systematic review and meta-analysis of studies examining the effect of nipple stimulation on sexual response and sexual satisfaction in young women. Methods: For this systematic review and meta-analysis, studies were identified through a search of the PubMed, Cochrane Library, EBSCOhost, Embase, Web of Science, PsycINFO, and Scopus databases without any year restrictions. Results: A total of nine studies (~1276 participants) were included in the systematic review. Of these, six studies (390 intervention, 441 control; n = 831) contributed to the meta-analysis of sexual response/orgasm outcomes, and six studies (655 intervention, 621 control; n = 1276) contributed to the meta-analysis of sexual satisfaction. Nipple stimulation significantly improved sexual response [standardized mean difference (SMD) = 0.51, P < .00001] and sexual satisfaction (SMD = 0.59, P = .005). Discussion: Nipple stimulation may be used as a supportive method to enhance sexual function and sexual satisfaction in young women. It may be considered as a complementary approach to sexual counseling and therapy, particularly for women experiencing sexual aversion, difficulty with arousal, and orgasm problems. This meta-analysis suggests that nipple stimulation may have a moderate positive effect on sexual response and sexual satisfaction in young women; however, the findings should be interpreted with caution due to the limited age range of the included population and the heterogeneity across studies.
- MakaleAçık Erişim2024Scopus SJRQ3The effect of transurethral resection of the prostate on sexual life quality in patient spouses
Aydin Sayilan, Aylin; Kulakac, Nursen
The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) surgery on quality of sexual life in patients' spouses. A pre/post-operative test, quasi-experimental design with no control group was employed. The research was conducted in the urology clinics of two hospitals in the west of Turkey between 30 June and 30 September 2022. It was completed with 172 patient spouses recruited using non-probability sampling. The study data were collected using an individual information form and the Sexual Quality of Life-Female questionnaire. The preoperative test applied prior to surgery was administered by the face-to-face interview method, while the postoperative test was completed by telephone interviews 8 weeks after the initial data collection. The mean age of the individuals undergoing TURP surgery in this study was 62.69 ± 7.98 years (min 40, max 77), and the mean age of the spouses was 57.91 ± 7.46 (min 39, max 73). Sexual Quality of Life-Female scores after surgery were significantly higher than the pre-surgical values (p < 0.001). A significant difference in sex life quality was determined in terms of age, education, employment status, presence of chronic disease, number of children, and ‘love marriages’ (p < 0.05). The sexual life quality of the spouses of patients exposed to TURP surgery increased significantly 8 weeks after the procedure. The quality of sex life was higher among individuals with higher education levels, working individuals, and those who ‘married for love’, but decreased in line with age and number of children.
