Oguz, Enes Cengiz; Gyasi, Evans Akwasi; Pala, Fahrettin; Pilatin, Abdulmuttalip; Barut, Abdulkadir
The study sheds light on the subtle interactions among financial development, foreign direct investment (FDI), and the quality of regulatory frameworks, with particular reference to their deep influence on renewable energy use and carbon emissions across 22 developed countries from 2002-2021. The results show an interesting tendency: Financial development and FDI will reduce reliance on renewable energy, whereas a significant increase in GDP per capita will increase reliance. Secondly, carbon emissions have a negative association with the adoption of renewable energy and financial development, though both reduce environmental quality; there is a positive relation between real gross domestic product (GDP) and energy depletion in terms of these toxic emissions. The significant role of regulatory quality as a moderator in this process is particularly striking. There is a direct correlation between financial stability and more robust regulation, resulting in reduced financial liquidity available for investing in renewable projects and restricting the free flow of clean FDI. Crucially, the paper argues that when combined with strong regulation, FDI is more likely to contribute to reductions in emissions, while FYGD, nevertheless regulated at a high level of quality, should raise emissions. Winding up, the result indicates that neither financial depth nor institutional quality, in isolation, is sufficient to deliver significant environmental improvement. Thus, it is urgent to adopt sound green finance policies and to formulate focused regulatory systems that integrate financial development and foreign direct investment with a broader sustainability agenda.

Ayaydın, Hasan; Ergün, Tolga; Ergün, Hilal Ok; Barut, Abdulkadir; Pilatin, Abdulmuttalip
This study examines the relationships among military spending, renewable energy (RNW), globalisation, economic growth, and ecological footprint in 35 OECD member countries, using data covering 1990–2022. Specifically, this study contributes to this discussion by presenting empirical evidence on the link between military expenditure and ecological footprint, while accounting for the moderating role of RNW in OECD countries. The analysis utilised Kao, Pedroni, and Westerlund cointegration tests, Driscoll-Kraay robust standard error tests, Dumitrescu-Hurlin causality tests, and FMOLS and DOLS techniques for robustness verification. Empirical results show that military spending in OECD countries increases the ecological footprint, leading to environmental degradation. Furthermore, the combined effect of military expenditure and RNW reduces the ecological footprint and contributes to environmental sustainability. The results contribute to the existing literature by underlining the role RNW plays in reducing the ecological footprint of military expenditures and by offering policy recommendations for environmental sustainability. From a managerial and policy perspective, the findings suggest that defense-related institutions and policymakers should integrate environmental sustainability criteria into military planning and procurement strategies. Increasing the use of renewable energy in military infrastructure, logistics, and defense technologies may significantly reduce the ecological footprint associated with military expenditure. Therefore, the transition toward renewable energy supported defense systems can serve as a strategic tool for aligning national security objectives with sustainable development goals.

Agrivoltaic systems, which integrate photovoltaic (PV) panels with the usage of agricultural land, emerge as a promising strategy by facilitating the simultaneous generation of renewable energy alongside the cultivation of various crops within the same area. This research is centered on the design and implementation of an agrivoltaic system that is specifically customized for the cultivation of wheat and sugar beet in the Central Anatolia Region of Turkey. The primary objective of this research is to optimize the spatial arrangement of the PV panels to achieve a balance between the generation of energy and the productivity of the crops. Through a detailed assessment of shading effects and Photosynthetic Photon Flux Density (PPFD) levels, this investigation will endeavor to unravel the complex interplay between panel configuration and its consequential impacts on both plant growth and energy output. In this investigation, the shading impacts attributed to three distinct configurations—specifically, the conventional solar power plant (SPP), the intermittently arranged panel layout, and the intermittently arranged V-shaped panel configuration—were assessed, and their appropriateness for the cultivation of wheat and sugar beet was evaluated. The V-shaped design, which additionally facilitates rainwater collection, yielded an enhanced PPFD value across the three designated regions beneath the panels.

Yildiz, Gizem Akbulut; Yildiz, Barış; Al, İbrahim; Kanca, Osman Cenk
This paper, within the framework of the Environmental Kuznets Curve (EKC), investigates the impact of militarisation on environmental degradation, including the role of renewable energy. Military expenditure and burden are used as proxies for militarisation, and models are estimated to quantify their relationship with carbon dioxide (CO2 ) emissions. The study utilizes the CS-ARDL approach to analyse data from Brazil, China, India, Indonesia, Mexico, Russia, and Turkey collectively known as the E7 nations from 1992 to 2022. The method employs both fixed-effect and random-effect models, taking into account short-run and long-run coefficients while accounting for cross-sectional dependencies and heterogeneities. The study puts forward four hypotheses for investigation, and a notable finding is that military expenditure, contradicting prevalent sustainability assumptions, has a substantial impact on the reduction of CO2 emissions over both short and long-run periods. This suggests that within the E7 context, militarisation may paradoxically function as a catalyst for environmental conservation rather than a detrimental impact. The findings further corroborate the inverted U-shaped EKC hypothesis by demonstrating that while economic growth initially increases emission levels, these levels begin to decline once a certain income threshold is reached. The study also underscores the long-run benefits of renewable energy in reducing CO2 emissions and advocates for investment in green energy projects, complemented by implementing viable environmental policies. These insights offer actionable guidance for policymakers seeking to harmonize economic development with environmental protection and sustainability objectives.

The significant natural energy sources for reducing the global usage of fossil fuels are renewable energy (RE) sources. Solar energy is a crucial and reliable RE source. Site selection for solar photovoltaic (PV) farms is a crucial issue in terms of spatial planning and RE policies. This study adopts a Geographic Information System (GIS)-based Multi-Influencing Factor (MIF) technique to enhance the precision of identifying and delineating optimal locations for solar PV farms. The choice of GIS and MIF is motivated by their ability to integrate diverse influencing factors, facilitating a holistic analysis of spatial data. The selected influencing factors include solar radiation, wind speed, Land Surface Temperature (LST), relative humidity, vegetation, elevation, land use, Euclidean distance from roads, and aspect. The optimal sites of solar PV power plant delineated revealed that 'very low' suitability of site covering 4.866% of the study area, 'low' suitability of site 13.190%, 'moderate' suitability of site 31.640%, 'good' suitability of site 32.347%, and 'very good' suitability of site for solar PV power plant encompassing 17.957% of the study area. The sensitivity analysis results show that the solar radiation, relative humidity, and elevation are the most effective on the accuracy of the prediction. The validation of the results shows the accuracy of solar PV power plant prediction using MIF technique in the study area was 81.80%. The integration of GIS and MIF not only enhances the accuracy of site suitability assessment but also provides a practical implementation strategy. This research offers valuable insights for renewable energy policymakers, urban planners, and other stakeholders seeking to identify and develop optimal locations for solar energy power farms in their respective regions.

This study investigates the relationship between nanotechnological innovations, renewable energy consumption, economic growth, and ecological footprint for G7 countries within the framework of the Environmental Kuznets Curve (EKC) hypothesis. The study employs panel cointegration tests with structural breaks from 1990–2018. Nanotechnology is expected to reduce environmental degradation by increasing renewable energy consumption and energy saving. In this context, nanotechnological innovations are an essential tool for sustainable development. However, the literature also emphasizes that nanoparticle emissions from nanotechnology can negatively impact human and environmental health in the long term, and these need to be analyzed. In this context, this study is the first to empirically examine the relationship between nanotechnological innovations, renewable energy consumption, economic growth, and ecological footprint within the framework of the EKC hypothesis. The outcomes affirm that all variables are integrated with the long term. The results show that the EKC hypothesis is valid only in the USA. Nanotechnological innovations have a reducing effect on environmental degradation in the USA, whereas; they have an increasing impact on environmental degradation in Italy and the United Kingdom. Renewable energy consumption enhances environmental quality in Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the USA. Based on these empirical findings, the government should pioneer to development of new the lowest nanoparticle-emitting nanotechnologies. And that way, it will be possible to encourage energy savings and renewable energy consumption more safely, and the effectiveness of sustainable development policies will increase.

Energy sources are divided into renewable and non-renewable sources. It can be seen that non-renewable energy resources are not adequately meeting the increased demands of worldwide technological developments, increasing population, and global consumption. Therefore, the demand for renewable resources is increasing day by day. When it comes to the use of non-renewable carbon-based fossil fuels, one of the first areas that come to mind is undoubtedly the Automotive sector. Today, it is realized that one of the main reasons for the lack of electric motor cars compared to petroleum fuelled cars, is the scarcity of electric vehicle charging stations and the difficulty of their accessibility. In this study; an analysis of solar-powered electric charging stations site selection was carried out for electric vehicles. The Ankara-Istanbul highway, which has a high traffic density, was chosen as the sample route for the study. Within the scope of the study, the areas where stations can be installed on the highway were carried out using the Multi-Criteria Decision Making Method with the help of Geographic Information System. Solar radiation, slope, aspect, land use/land cover, traffic volume and proximity to the road, criteria of the route, and site selection analysis were determined as input data. The maps of the determined criteria were arranged according to the study area and prepared for analysis. The criteria maps obtained were reclassified according to the above-mentioned criteria and scoring system. After the reclassification process, the weighting of each criteria which affect the analysis was determined by the researched literature and an overlapping process was carried out. According to the results map produced as a result of the overlay analysis, the appropriate area has been determined for the electric charging stations working with solar energy.

Renewable energy sources have been important for humans since the beginning of civilization. For centuries and in many ways, biomass has been used for heating and cooking. Many centuries ago mankind was already utilizing the clearly visible power of water for mechanical drive purposes, as was also the case with wind. On the other hand, Turkey, with its young population and growing energy demand per person, its fast growing urbanization, and its economic development, has been one of the fast growing power markets of the world for the last two decades. It is expected that the demand for electric energy in Turkey will be 300 billion kWh by the year 2010 and 580 billion kWh by the year 2020. Turkey is heavily dependent on expensive imported energy resources that place a big burden on the economy and air pollution is becoming a great environmental concern in the country. In this regard, renewable energy resources appear to be the one of the most efficient and effective solutions for clean and sustainable energy development in Turkey. Turkey's geographical location has several advantages for extensive use of most of these renewable energy sources.
