Background: Disrupted feeding timing may alter microbiota profiles and contribute to metabolic disturbances. This study aimed to investigate the impact of maternal chrononutrition during pregnancy on maternal gut and placental microbiota. Methods: This study was conducted between April 2022 and February 2023 at Erciyes University Faculty of Medicine Hospitals and Kayseri Private Dünyam Hospital in Kayseri, Türkiye, among healthy pregnant women with predominantly daytime feeding (pDT, n = 10) or predominantly nighttime feeding (pNT, n = 10). A questionnaire was administered, and three-day food consumption diaries were recorded at both 20–26 and 32–36 weeks of gestation. Fecal samples were collected at 32–36 weeks of gestation, and placental samples were collected at birth and stored at -80 °C until analysis. Results: Although total daily energy intake at both gestational periods (20–26 and 32–36 weeks) was similar between the groups, gestational weight gain was greater in the pNT group [16.30 (5.25) kg] than in the pDT group [11.90 (3.41) kg] (p = 0.039). Compared with the pDT group, the Firmicutes: Bacteroidetes ratio was higher in the maternal gut microbiota of the pNT group. Furthermore, Bacilli, Lactobacillales, Lactobacillaceae, and Lactobacillus were significantly more abundant in the pDT group than in the pNT group (p < 0.05). The intestinal and placental microbiota of the pDT and pNT groups had similar alpha and beta diversity. Conclusions: Our findings suggest that predominantly daytime or nighttime feeding during pregnancy may influence the composition of maternal gut and placental microbiota. These microbiome alterations may have potential implications for maternal and infant health; however, larger longitudinal studies are needed to clarify their long-term relevance, including possible links with fetal programming.

Objective: This study examines the effect of risk perception and socio-demographic and obstetric factors on the level of decision-making of pregnant women via the internet. Method: This study employed a cross-sectional and analytical design and was conducted online with 384 pregnant women living in Turkey. Data were collected using descriptive information forms, such as the decision-making scale via the internet on pregnancy and the perception of pregnancy risk scale. Descriptive statistics, including percentages and means, as well as multiple linear regression analysis, were utilized to analyze the data. Results: As the risk perception in pregnancy increased, the level of decision-making via the internet increased (β=0.118, p=0.000). Among pregnant women experiencing pregnancy-related health issues, a significant increase in decision-making via the internet was observed (β=0.092, p=0.046). As the age of women increased (β=-2.623, p=0.013) and income was perceived to be equal to expenses (β=-1.499, p=0.011) or more than expenses (β=-1.953, p=0.023), decision-making via the internet during pregnancy decreased. Unwanted pregnancy has a “reducing” effect of approximately two times on online decision-making (β=-1.919, p=0.026). The number of pregnancies, education and family type were found to have no statistical effect on decision-making (p>0.05). Conclusion: As the risk perception increases in pregnant women, online decision-making also increases. Factors such as some socio-demographic and obstetric factors affect online decision-making of pregnant women.

Sarı, Tuğba; Gürhan, Nermin; Uzun, Sevda
BACKGROUND: Some pregnant women have negative emotions that may predominate and they may develop a fear of childbirth. This causes negative consequences for their health and well-being. A complete definition of the causes of childbirth fear has not yet been established in the literature, but in a systematic review, various factors were found. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to reveal the effect of educational, cognitive, and behavioral interventions on the reduction of fear of childbirth (FOC) in pregnant women. METHODS: For this meta-analysis study, articles in PubMed, EBSCOhost, Web of Science, YÖK Thesis Center, and Google Scholar databases were searched without any year limitation in between September 2022 and February 2023. A total of 25 studies were included in this meta-analysis. The data were analyzed by meta-analysis and narrative methods. RESULTS: This meta-analysis showed that educational, cognitive, and behavioral interventions were effective in reducing FOC in pregnant women (standardized mean difference: −1.229, 95% confidence interval [−1.586, −0.872]; Z = −6,746, p = .000, I2 = 94.225%). In subgroup analyzes, intervention types such as antenatal education, mindfulness, psychoeducation, and psychotherapy were found to be effective in reducing FOC. Interventions applied to women who have FOC reduce the FOC and provide a more positive birth experience. CONCLUSION: Results of the present study showed that educational programs could serve as an important tool in reducing women’s fear from natural childbirth and in choosing physiologic birth.

Progranulin (PGRN) is a multifunctional protein that is critical in the retention of embryos in the endometrium of the uterus and the protection of cervical tissue during fetal growth. In case of PGRN release and dysfunction, cervical tissue may remodel (regeneration) and lead to the risk of abortion. Serum PGRN level in sheep and its variation according to different physiological periods and its relationship with some biochemical parameters are unknown. In this study, the relationship between early lactation, early and late pregnancy serum PGRN levels and some biochemical parameters in Akkaraman sheep was investigated for the first time. In the literature search, no similar studies were found on the relationship between early lactation, early and late pregnancy serum PGRN levels and some biochemical parameters in Akkaraman sheep. The research was carried out on 90 Akkaraman sheep reared in the same herd under the same care and feeding conditions. In the study, Akkaraman ewe were divided into 3 groups as early lactation, early pregnancy and late pregnancy. 1st group is early lactation period ewe (first 60 days of lactation), (n = 30), 2nd group is in the first period of pregnancy (on the 0-90th day of the first pregnancy (n = 30)), 3rd group is in the late pregnancy of pregnancy (100-150 days of pregnancy (n = 30)) was created. Blood samples from vena jugularis were taken before morning feeding from the animals that formed the study groups. PGRN levels in serum were determined by ELISA method. In addition, glucose, calcium (Ca), magnesium (Mg), phosphorus (P), total cholesterol (TC), triglyceride (TG), low density lipoprotein (LDL), high density lipoprotein (HDL), very low density lipoprotein (VLDL) levels were analyzed in biochemistry autoanalyzer. As a result of the study, lactation and early pregnancy and late pregnancy mean serum PGRN levels were determined as 1.93, 1.78, 1.33 ng mL-1, respectively. The serum PGRN, glucose, Ca, Mg, P, TC, TG, LDL, HDL and VLDL levels of sheep with late pregnancy, early lactation and early pregnancy periods, which constitute the study groups, were found to be statistically significant (P<0.05). Our results have shown that due to the physiological role of PRGN in keeping the embryo in the endometrium of the uterine and in preserving the cervical tissue during fetal growth, there may be a useful parameter in the pursuit of the pregnancy process.

Objective: This study was conducted to evaluate the self-care agency of women during pregnancy. Methods: A descriptive and cross-sectional design was used in the study. The population of the study consisted of women with pregnancy who presented to obstetrics outpatient clinics in Gumushane public hospital between January 30, 2018 and June 20, 2018, and the sample included women who accepted to voluntarily participate in the study (n=201). Data collection tools included a personal information form and the SelfCare Agency Scale. The data were analyzed on a statistical software package, and the level of significance was determined as p<0.05. Results: : The mean age of the pregnant women who participated in the study was 27.50 +/- 4.84 (min.-max.=18-41), 72.5% of them had high school and higher education, and 54.8% was housewives. Profession, adequate and balanced nutrition, participation in social activities, and getting social support were found to create statistically significant differences in self-care agency scale scores (p<0,05). It was determined that more than half of the women with pregnancy had a very good level of self-care agency. Conclusion: Many factors (increasing number of curettage, occupational groups, participation in social activities, adequate and balanced nutrition, and support from the family) affect the self-care agency of women during pregnancy. It is recommended that health professionals discuss and evaluate self-care issues in pregnancy in their in-service education programs.

Paksoy, Zahid
In this study, it was aimed to make the pregnancy diagnosis with the determination of glycoproteins (PAG) associated pregnancy after insemination in the cows, and to determine the late embryonic mortality rates. As material, 2919 head cows in different races and ages were used in farms and family businesses in Kahramanmaraş province. Milk sample was taken on the 25–30 day after artificial insemination from cows. The level of PAG in these milk samples was analyzed by using the Milk Pregnancy Test Kit for cows. This kit was used according to the manufacturer's instructions. During the study, it was determined that 1660 cows were pregnant, 188 were suspicious and 1071 were not pregnant. The pregnant animals were examined by rectal palpation on the 50th day when their pregnancy was continued. Controls performed on the 50th day of pregnant cows showed that 1623 cows were still pregnant and 37 cows had late embryonic deaths. As a result, early pregnancies can be accurately detected by measuring the level of PAG in the cow's milk using the Milk Pregnancy Test Kit. It was concluded that late embryonic mortality rates could be detected and that this analysis could be used routinely.

Paksoy, Z.; Kirbas, A.
The objective of this study was to determine the suitability of carprofen, flunixin meglumine and meloxicam for use in emergency contraception. Forty-eight pregnant Sprague-Dawley rats were used as material. Five groups were subjected to treatments while one group served as a control. The numbers of animals in each group were equal (n = 8). Treatment groups were administered carprofen (10 mg/kg, single or double dose, s.c.), flunixin meglumine (5 mg/kg, single or double dose, i.m.) and meloxicam (2 mg/kg, a single dose, s.c.) on the third day after mating. The control group received saline. The rats were sacrificed on Day 7 of gestation. Luteal spots and implantation sites were recorded. Pre-implantation loss was calculated by subtracting the number of luteal spots from the number of implantation sites. Compared with the control, the administration of flunixin meglumine (double dose), carprofen (double dose) and meloxicam highly significantly decreased the implantation rate (P < 0.001). Single dose administration of flunixin meglumine and carprofen led to significant decreases (P < 0.01). In conclusion, this study indicates that carprofen, flunixin meglumine and meloxicam treatment cause a decline in implantation rate in rats.
