    Avci, Ibrahim

This research focuses on the materialistic tendencies and conspicuous consumption behaviors of consumers, especially in today's social media age. The research's goal is to determine the effect of materialistic tendencies on conspicuous consumption behavior and to investigate the role of social media usage in mediating this effect. The data were collected in this context using a prepared survey form, and 596 consumers participated in the survey during the data collection process. SPSS and AMOS programs were used to analyze the collected data. As a result of the analyses, it was discovered that the materialistic tendency had a positive and significant effect on both conspicuous consumption behavior and social media usage; it was also discovered that social media usage had a positive and significant effect on conspicuous consumption behavior. Furthermore, it was determined that social media usage has a partial mediation in the effect of materialistic tendency on conspicuous consumption behavior; in other words, a portion of the effect of materialistic tendency on conspicuous consumption behavior is realized through social media usage. Suggestions for both theory and practice were made in light of these findings.

    Avci, Ibrahim

The concept of consumption, which has an important place in people's lives, is generally expressed as the use of produced goods and services in line with needs. Consumption now includes the psychological needs of people as well as their physical needs. Consumers can buy things they do not need by acting pleasure-orientedly, and they exhibit consumption behaviors to provide psychological satisfaction. One of the consumer-purchase patterns is found to demonstrate others in the social environment. Therefore, non-need consumption focused on pleasure and display causes excessive consumption; this situation can also cause wastefulness. Accordingly, in the present study, the aim was to examine the effect ofconspicuous consumption behavior on wasteful consumption behavior and the mediating role of hedonic consumption behavior in this effect. With the online survey form prepared, 519 participants were reached between the dates of 21.05.2020-06.07.2020. The data obtained were analyzed with the SPSS 21, AMOS 24, and PROCESS 3.5 programs. After the analysis, it was concluded that conspicuous consumption behavior has an effect on wasteful consumption behavior and that hedonic consumption behavior has a mediating effect.

Social Capital Measurement in Turkiye: Creating an Index by Province

    Pilatin, Abdulmuttalip; Ayaydin, Hasan

The aim of the study is to create a social capital index on the basis of 81 provinces covering the years between 2007-2018 in Turkiye. While creating the social capital index, the method of creating the social capital index obtained from 2 networks and 2 norm variables, which was also used in previous studies, was applied. While the number of foundations and associations on a provincial basis was used as network variables, the rate of voting in parliamentary elections and the rate of response to WVS surveys were used as norm variables. In order to perform principal component analysis, the collected data was entered into the SPSS 23 package program, and the relevant analysis was performed. For this purpose, principal component analysis was applied for the years 2007, 2011, and 2018, when parliamentary general elections were held, and the first component that emerged was taken as an indicator of social capital index. Since social capital does not change in a short period of time for countries, regions, and cities, the index values for the years between 2007, 2011 and 2018 were created with the linear interpolation method using the data, as applied in similar studies. Positive ones among the index values created on the basis of provinces indicate a high level of social capital, while negative values indicate a low level of social capital. When the social capital index values of 2007 and 2018 are examined, it is observed that the social capital levels of the provinces have increased over the years, although there has not been much change in the index values on a provincial basis over the years.
