- MakaleAçık Erişim2025Realpolitik Bağlamda İran’ın Azerbaycan Politikası
Sancak, Kadir
- MakaleAçık Erişim2025Fragile Routes: The Impact of Israel's Confrontational Policies on Trade Routes
Sancak, Kadir
The geopolitical position of the Middle East has a strategic value in the functioning of Eurasian trade routes. Accordingly, security issues in the region directly affect the realization and sustainability of trade projects. Israels Palestinian policies disrupt the security balance in the Middle East, posing risks to major trade projects such as the Belt and Road Initiative, the IMEC Project and the Development Road. Recognizing that trade and security are inextricably linked, this study examines the current state and future of these projects from a security perspective. Based on a comprehensive literature review using qualitative analysis, this study evaluates the effects of instability in the Middle East on trade routes. The study reveals that trade projects in the region will be at risk of instability unless security issues are resolved. The first part of the study discusses the relationship between trade and security in a conceptual framework. Then, Israel's Palestinian policies are briefly touched upon and it is stated that these policies negatively affect the security of the Middle East. In the last part, major trade projects are discussed and how these projects are affected by Israel's policies. The findings show that the Southern Corridor of the Belt and Road Initiative has a fragile structure, the IMEC Project cannot be realized due to security problems, and the Development Road offers a more reliable alternative under current conditions. If security and stability cannot be ensured in the Middle East, it is anticipated that it will be difficult for trade projects to operate permanently and effectively.

Sancak, Kadir

Sancak, Kadir
One of the major topics of international relations discipline is international terrorism. Although international terrorism is not a new problem it is still a most important issue that threatens international security in last years especially after the September 11. In 2001, when the attacks occurred, the US was the biggest force in the world and has all kinds of military and economic capabilities. So, why did it not possible to prevent such an attack? And why has the US become the target of such an attack? These questions have been an important milestone in the struggle against international terrorism. After that, the methods used until then have been started to be discuss. In this study, first of all, it is stated that the hard power approach, which is expressed as the traditional approach to the struggle against international terrorism, and which uses only military elements, will not be sufficient. It is explained that soft power policies to be supported by different public diplomacy tools will play an important role in this struggle. Finally, the role and importance of the media as an important public diplomacy tool in the struggle against international terrorism is emphasized.

- MakaleYalnız künye2018The importance of public diplomacy in turkeyazerbaijan relations and public diplomacy activities that turkey conducts in azerbaijan through official institutions
Sancak, Kadir
Because of the fact that soft power has recently emerged as a significant instrument along with the hard power in international power struggle, this has led an increase in importance of public diplomacy by expanding its fields of application. Many developments have showed that these activities addresses also to public opinion of friend/ally countries. The Flag Crisis between Turkey and Azerbaijan is one of the recent developments that display this necessity. Accordingly, focusing more heavily on public diplomacy activities toward Azerbaijan, which is known as the nearest/ friend country by the public, becomes a requirement. Turkey has constituted new institutions in last ten years in order to develop its public diplomacy activities by recognizing this change/transformation in power struggles in the international arena. In this sense, Turkey has started conducting an effective public diplomacy policy toward Azerbaijan through its varied institutions such as the Turkish Coordination and Cooperation Agency, the Turkish Radio and Television Corporation, Presidency of Religious Affairs, Yunus Emre Institutes and so on.
- MakaleYalnız künye2016The Importance Of Public Diplomacy In The Normalization Of The Relations Between Turkey And Armenia
Sancak, Kadir
There are various problems in the relations between Turkey and Armenia such asgenocide allegations, terrorist activities of the ASALA terror organization in the pastyears, occupation of Nagorno— Karabakh, and activities of the Diaspora and variousother problems of similar nature and there is very little reason to think that theseproblems will be solved in the near future. As matter of fact, serious steps weretaken through the protocols signed in 2009 for the sake of normalization of therelations; however, the reaction of the public opinion in both countries and of theAzerbaijani side did not allow these protocols to be implemented after being adoptedby both countries' parliaments. The situation encountered revealed the necessity ofconvincing the public opinion of the countries involved, including of theAzerbaijanis' for the success of the efforts of both governments in seeking politicalsolutions.Serious prejudices in negative sense mutually exist between the Turkish andArmenian societies and these prejudices prevent steps from being taken for the sakeof normalization of the relations. For this reason, efforts should be made in the firstplace to eliminate these prejudices in the context of normalization of the relations. The results of the two surveys conducted by two different organizations amongTurkish and Armenian citizens in 2005 and 2012 help to capture important detailsand ideas on this subject. When looked at the data obtained from these surveysstudies it is seen that increase of communication and interaction between the Turkishand Armenian societies helps decrease the deep seated prejudice and hate betweenthese two societies. Under the circumstances, the first steps to be taken in thecontext of normalization of the relations should be directed at increasing mutualcommunication and interaction between these two societies. Public diplomacy iskey tool to achieve this goal. In this regard, it seems possible to achieve successfulresults with this goal by efficient use of media resources primarily televisionbroadcasting by also involving the Armenians living in Turkey and tourism policiesand other tools of public diplomacy.
