Investigation of yield and yield components with some quality traits two-rowed barley (Hordeum vulgare conv. distichon) cultivars in Samsun ecological conditions

In this study; yield, yield components and some quality parameters of 12 barley cultivars (Fahrettinbey, Cumhuriyet-50, Özdemir-05, Kalaycı97, Çıldır-02, İnce-04, Efes-98, Erciyes, Çumra-2001, Sladoran, Tarm-92 ve Tokak-157/35) being suitable for Samsun (Gelemen) experimental areas in 20072008 and 2008-2009 growing seasons with four replications according to randomized complete block design. Significant differences were found between genotypes regarding all investigated agricultural characters. Duration of heading, duration of ripening, plant height, spike number per m, spike length, grain number per spike, the weight of grains per spike, harvest index, grain yield, grain largeness level, 1000seed weight, hectoliter weight and crude protein content values were determined for investigated genotypes respectively as between 120.00 and 132.00 days, 160.00 and 170.63 days, 91.59 and 121.27 cm, 400.29 and 493.75, 7.28 and 9.56 cm, 24.29 and 27.28, 0.94 and 1.06 g, 34.61 and 43.00 %, 378.47 and 525.50 kg/da, 81.94 and 91.19 %, 37.82 and 49.84 g, 65.83 and 70.48 kg, 10.26 and 12.00 %. The cultivars Sladoran, Fahrettinbey and Çumra2001 (525.50, 512.57 ve 507.25 kg/da, respectively) showed the highest grain yield, Fahrettinbey and Sladoran 1000-seed yields (49.84-47.97 g respectively), Sladoran and Fahrettinbey hectoliter weight (70.48 and 69.15 kg respectively) whereas the cultivars Efes-98 showed the highest crude protein content (12.00 %). The result of this study, when considered in terms of yield and quality characteristics, it has been found that Sladoran, Fahrettinbey and Çumra-2001 cultivars, appeared as promising genotypes for the conditions in Samsun than other cultivars
