Özet

Flunixin meglumine is one of the most widely used non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agents in veterinary medicine. This drug is used on different days to prevent embryonic deaths and to increase pregnancy rates after insemination in cattle. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of flunixin meglumine administration on pregnancy rates at 14th day of post artificial insemination in cows. Holstein cows were used in the study (n=60). Animals were inseminated in natural oestrus and randomly divided into two groups after insemination. The first group (n=30) was administered 2 ml of saline postinsemination on the 14th day and this group constituted the control group. To the second group (n=30) was given flunixin meglumine at the dose of 2.2 mg / kg on the 14th day after insemination and this group constituted the treatment group. On the 45th day after insemination, animals were subjected to rectal examination and the pregnancy rates were determined. While 17 of 30 cows conceived in the control group, it was detected that 24 out of 30 cows treated with the flunixin meglumine was pregnant. This study showed that flunixin meglumine had a positive effect on pregnancy rates in cows. For this reason, it was concluded that flunixin meglumine administration after artificial insemination would be beneficial in maintaining the gestation.
