Objectives This study investigated the effect of the puppet-assisted House-Tree-Person Test (HTP-T) on fear and anxiety levels in children undergoing chemotherapy treatment and the factors influencing these outcomes. Methods The study employed a one-group pretest–posttest quasi-experimental design combined with HTP-T analysis. The study was conducted with 29 children aged 5–12 years receiving chemotherapy at the pediatric hematology-oncology outpatient clinics of a university hospital in the Eastern Black Sea Region of Türkiye during the 2022–2024 years. Data were collected using “the Demographic Information Form for Children and Parents, the Children's State Anxiety Scale (CSA), the Children's Fear Scale (CFS), and HTP-T". Data analysis was performed using descriptive statistics, repeated measures ANOVA, and HTP-T analysis. Results Statistically significant differences were observed in children's mean CSA (F = 3.898, p = 0.026, η2 = 0.122) and CFS (F = 5.313, p = 0.008, η2 = 0.159) scores across the pre-treatment, during-treatment, and post-treatment measurements. The HTP-T analysis revealed that children had difficulty regulating anxiety and fear, expressed concerns about family and environmental events, reported feelings of loneliness, and exhibited strong emotional attachment to their families. Conclusion The study demonstrated that incorporating puppet-assisted HTP-T during chemotherapy contributed to reducing children's fear and anxiety and offered a useful approach for identifying influencing factors. Implications for nursing practice HTP-T, a therapeutic play technique incorporating puppetry and projective methods, may be effective in reducing fear and anxiety among children undergoing chemotherapy.

Introduction This study aimed to evaluate family-centered care (FCC) practices in pediatric units from the perspectives of pediatric nurses, nursing students, and parents. Methods A convergent parallel mixed-methods design was employed. Quantitative data were collected using a cross-sectional design, while qualitative data were obtained through a case study approach. The sample consisted of 338 parents, 221 nursing students, and 10 pediatric nurses. Parents completed the FCC Assessment Scale and the PedsQL Healthcare Satisfaction Module, nursing students completed the Caring Behaviors Inventory, and pediatric nurses participated in semi-structured interviews. Results Parents reported high scores in the FCC dimensions of “support,” “collaboration,” and “respect,” which significantly predicted parental satisfaction. The “support” dimension was the strongest predictor of satisfaction with information, family participation, and technical skills. Nursing students rated pediatric nurses' caring behaviors highly. Qualitative analysis identified five major themes: (1) Perception of FCC, (2) Role of the Nurse, (3) Role of the Physician, (4) Benefits of FCC, and (5) Barriers to FCC. These themes highlighted the importance of family participation, the nurse's leadership role, gaps in physician communication, the multifaceted benefits of FCC at the child, family, and system levels, and barriers including workload, physical environment limitations, and family-related challenges. Conclusion Perceived FCC practices significantly predicted parental satisfaction. However, improvements are needed in information sharing, family participation, and physical environment conditions. Implications to practice These findings provide valuable insights for developing educational, clinical, and policy strategies to strengthen the implementation of FCC in pediatric nursing practice.

Introduction: The high relationship between the effective application of first aid after home accidents and survival determines the priorities in first aid. Childcare is mostly the responsibility of mothers, and their knowledge and practices regarding the management of home injuries are crucial in reducing morbidity and mortality associated with home accidents. This study aimed to examine the first aid self-efficacy of mothers with children aged 0-4 years to manage their children's home accidents. Methods: This cross-sectional study, focusing on the first aid self-efficacy of mothers with children aged 0-4 for home accidents, was conducted with 266 mothers at a district government hospital affiliated with the Ministry of Health in the Eastern Black Sea Region between January 1, 2023, and August 1, 2023. Data were collected through a demographic information form and the first aid self-efficacy scale for home accidents. Results: The mean score of the first aid self-efficacy scale in home accidents was found to be 2.15 +/- 0.95 and significant differences were found according to the mother's level of education, number of children, income status, caregiver of the child and mothers' first aid status. Conclusion: In conclusion, the findings of the study showed that first aid self-efficacy is not based solely on demographic factors, but instead may be shaped more by education, experience and the general approach of parents as parents, although mothers' knowledge of first aid was below average.

Göger, Berrin; Kahriman, Ilknur
Many studies highlight the negative impact of smartphone addiction on adolescents’ health. It disrupts sleep habits and lifestyle. The study was conducted to evaluate the effect of smartphone addiction on the sleep quality and lifestyle behavior of adolescents. It was conducted in public high schools in a city center in the Eastern Black Sea Region of Türkiye. The sample consisted of 546 high school students. Data were collected using a Descriptive Information Form for Adolescents, the Smartphone Addiction Scale—Short Version, the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, and the Adolescent Lifestyle Profile Scale. According to the results, the incidence of smartphone addiction among adolescents differed according to gender, academic achievement, age of first smartphone (p =.044), and daily smartphone use time (p =.000). Mean Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index scores were not significantly different for the same variables. There was a significant difference in mean Adolescent Lifestyle Profile Scale scores according to academic achievement, having a smartphone, and age of first smartphone acquisition. There was a weak positive correlation between smartphone addiction and Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index scores and a weak negative correlation between smartphone addiction and Adolescent Lifestyle Scale scores. There was also a weak negative correlation between Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index scores and Adolescent Lifestyle Scale scores. Smartphone addiction negatively affects adolescents’ sleep quality and lifestyle.
- MakaleAçık Erişim2022Investigating the Relationship Between Digital Game Addiction and Sleep Quality in Adolescents
Tuncay, Birgul; Göger, Berrin
Objective: This study aimed to assess the digital game addiction and sleep quality in adolescents and examine the relationship between them. Materials and Methods: This descriptive study was conducted with 312 students from three high schools located in a district center in the Eastern Black Sea Region, who agreed to participate in the study. Data were collected using the descriptive information form, the digital game addiction scale, and the Pittsburgh sleep quality index. Results: The mean age of the participants was 15.99 +/- 0.85 years. Of the participants, 78.5% played digital games on computers, mobile phones, tablets, or game rooms. The mean score of the participants on the digital game addiction scale was 12.46 +/- 5.57; 16.3% were game addicts. The Pittsburgh sleep quality index mean score was 4.72 +/- 2.53, with a score range of 0-13; 34.9% had poor sleep quality. Conclusion: In conclusion, a positive, low-level, statistically significant relationship was found between the digital game addiction scale and Pittsburgh sleep quality index scores (r=0.157, p <= 0.001). As the digital game addiction scores increase in adolescents, their sleep quality scores also increase. Game addiction and sleep-related problems in adolescents can negatively affect their physical and psychological health and academic success. Adequate supervision and protective measures are required to reduce the problems faced by adolescents when using digital technology.
