Climate Change and Urban Poverty Solutions to Prevent Poverty

    Cengiz, Emre

Cities are at the centre of economic, social and political life. As a result, cities are constantly growing and their populations are rapidly increasing. As is well known, references are made to the industrial revolution when defining today's cities. With the industrial revolution, cities have become major centres for rural-to-urban migration. With this wave of migration, the construction of informal structures in cities and the struggle for survival of new urban poor in these settlements can be observed. This process is continually observable in developed, developing and underdeveloped countries at different times and to varying degrees. As a result of cities themselves becoming commodified in a world continually impacted by climate change, the urban poor’s struggle to survive has been intensified by factors such as increasing rent prices, reduced access to basic services, diminishing access to food and clean water, and settlement instability.

Reflection of Internal Migration and Social Change in Turkish Novel

    Eskiyurt, Nurefşan; Cengiz, Emre

Many different definitions have been made by researchers for the migration movement, which has a multifaceted dimension. Migration movement, which is a movement of displacement, is not instantaneous and expresses a process. Many reasons such as the division of agricultural lands, mechanization in agriculture, better education and socio-cultural opportunities in cities compared to rural areas, individuals desire to avoid blood feuds, and concern over terror incidents in the living area are among the reasons for internal migration in Turkey. The concept of social change, on the other hand, expresses a change in the cultural structures of societies. There is a relationship between the migration movement and social or cultural changes. This relationship has an important place in the Turkish novel. In the novels, the causes of migration, the urbanization processes of immigrants and the social changes they experience are discussed. A total of five Turkish novels, namely Kente İndi İdris, Toprak Kovgunları, Sevgili Arsız Ölüm, Aykırı Ölümler and Köygöçüren novels, were selected to be used in the study, and the ways in which the social changes caused by the internal migration movement were reflected in the selected novels are discussed.

    Understanding Environmental Policy After Covid-19

    Uğur, Ömer; Cengiz, Emre

Environmental and climate problems have gained a global dimension and constitute one of the important issues of world politics and economies. The necessity of all states to act together on these problems, which threaten the present and future of humanity, and find the solution has revealed the “global” character of the process. The interdependence created by economic development and environmental problems brought a new meaning and dimension to both national and international politics. Especially the recent pandemic has made the global nature of environmental issues more understandable. In this context, it seems necessary to create a work that deals with current debates in the field, which will help identify the problems in the field and find solutions to them.
