Beyond the Call to Serve: Measuring Donation Motives in Social Work Students

Akinci, Habibullah; Yücel, İbrahim; Kalayci, Erdinç

Understanding the motivations behind charitable giving is crucial, particularly among emerging social work professionals. This study presents the development and validation of a novel “Donation Motives Scale” specifically designed for social work students. Drawing upon established theories of donation behavior and existing measurement tools, a comprehensive item pool was generated. Through rigorous analysis, a 17-item scale emerged, structured around four distinct factors: social dignity and appreciation, social responsibility, personal satisfaction and self-evaluation, and humanity and empathy. The scale demonstrated strong validity and reliability within a sample of university students, indicating its potential as a robust tool for investigating donation motives within this population.

Psychometric validation of the Persian version of Philanthropy Scale in university students

Güngör, Sunay; Ersanli, Ercumend; Karimi, Kambiz; Öztürk, Mesut

In this study, we culturally adapted the Philanthropy Scale for Iranian university students, assessing its validity and reliability. Our sample included 600 students from Tehran and Tabriz universities. Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) validated the three-factor model, demonstrating excellent fit values. Internal consistency, measured by Cronbach's Alpha, was alpha = .838 for the total score. Sub-dimensions had values of alpha = .812 (not being self-seeking and being sincere), alpha = .745 (love and unconditional acceptance), and alpha = .689 (honesty). Spearman-Brown correlation coefficients, assessed via the split-half method, were r = .825 for the total score, r = .757 (not being self-seeking and being sincere), r = .705 (love and unconditional acceptance), and r = .769 (honesty). These results signify robust reliability.

    The Scale of Allah Imagination

    Karaca, Faruk; Hacikelesoglu, Hizir

In this study, a culture-sensitive measurement tool was developed to measure the imaginary forms of God. Psychometric analysis conducted with scale showed that the scale is reliable and valid enough. The scale of Allah imagination has a structure consisting of four factors and 19 items that explain 50.35% of the total variance. According to factor analysis, the first factor is Dismissive God image (careless), the second factor is Frightening God (fear-punishment oriented), the third factor is Loving and Frightening God (balanced), and the fourth factor is Loving God (love oriented). As a result of confirmatory factor analysis, the four-factor structure of the scale was confirmed. Cronbach's alpha, which is regarded as a criterion for internal consistency, is measured as proportional to=.61 for the scale of Allah Imagination. While the same items were analyzed via split half method, it is seen that the coefficient of correlation is.69. The correlation coefficient between the results of two measurements with 53 people and 10 days interval was calculated as.69, (p <.01). As a result of the analysis, it can be stated that the scale of Allah imagination is a valid and reliable measurement tool.
