Background: Healthcare professionals are known to make intensive use of the internet to improve their health literacy, preserve their psychological resilience, resolve uncertainties, and lessen their fear of COVID-19. Although several studies have addressed these concepts, we encountered none examining their relationships with one another. Objective: This research set out to determine the effects of health literacy, psychological resilience, and internet addiction levels on the fear of COVID-19 in healthcare professionals. Methods: The sample in this descriptive, cross-sectional, and correlation-seeking research consisted of 456 health workers. The data were collected using an information form and the Health Literacy Scale (HLS), the Brief Resilience Scale (BRS), Young's Internet Addiction Test-Short Form (YIAT-SF), and the Fear of COVID-19 Scale. Results: The mean age of the health professionals enrolled in the research was 40.80 ± 11.39 years (min 22, max 68), 52.4% were women, 87.1% held bachelor's degrees, 86.8% were married, and 5.9% were working as nurses. The participants’ mean scale scores were 54.97 ± 5.62 for the HLS, 26.95 ± 9.57 for YIAT-SF, 20.57 ± 3.62 for the BRS, and 20.33 ± 2.97 for the Fear of COVID-19 Scale. Conclusions: The healthcare professionals in this study exhibited adequate levels of health literacy and psychological resilience, a moderate level of internet addiction, and still experienced fear of COVID-19. Health literacy, internet addiction, and psychological well-being emerged as important factors in the fear of COVID-19.

AtıfScopus2OpenAlex2İncele - MakaleAçık Erişim2021A Sociological Criticism of the Global Health Discourse: The Pandemic as a Metaphor of Contemporary Culture
Demir, Sertac Timur
This article argues that a clear correlation exists between disease and the prevailing social functioning. In this respect, every disease can be seen as a metaphor for the age and society in which it emerges. In other words, every period carries a form of disease that bears traces of the dominant lifestyle. This study approaches the epidemic as a kind of sociological projection in the context of studying modern culture and continues the discussion along the lines critically opened by Susan Sontag (2005). lust as Sontag examined disease as a metaphor, this article debates the discourses on masks, social distancing, and hygiene within the scope of COVID-19 along a specific sociological axis around the concepts of speed, control, information, hyper-medicalization, and death as the dominant indicators of contemporary culture. For this purpose, the study seeks answers to the following questions through the leading social theorists of the field such as Bauman, Baudrillard, Turner, Furedi and Chul-Han: How does the global epidemic and the current health discourse embodied in it appear within the sociological context? What thoughts and tendencies emerge when examining the pandemic portrait as a social metaphor? For example, what kind of relationship exists between hygiene and cultural fears; among distance, social isolation, and avoidance; and between masks and the superficial idea of death concealed behind quantification? Undoubtedly, the pandemic is a critical breaking point in the history of modern medicine and has forced not only global health practices but also many value judgments to both paradoxically be accepted and questioned.

Hintistan, Sevilay; Kazak, Aysun
The emergence of the new pathogenic viral strains is a constant threat to global health. The latest new coronavirus strain coronavirus-2019 (COVID-19) is the best-known example of this. COVID-19, caused by the severe acute respiratory syndrome-CoV-2 virus has quickly spread around the globe. The applications of drug and vaccine practices, and the identification of potential candidates are of high importance against this pandemic. On healthy adults, a proper evaluation of potential vaccines in parallel with vaccination studies on animal models and an enlargement of production capacity will benefit minimum risk and accelerated COVID-19 vaccine studies for human subjects. The purpose of this review is to contribute to the analysis of vaccine development strategies, vaccine development stages, phase studies and the difficulties, production stages and current status of potential vaccine studies developed to prevent COVID-19.
