Demirag, Hatice; Hintistan, Sevilay
Objective: This study was carried out to determine the nurses' knowledge of the hemovigilance system and their use of it, within the scope of blood transfusion safety. Methods: The sample of this descriptive and cross-sectional study consisted of all nurses (n=65) working at Gumushane State Hospital. The data were collected with Structured Question Form Number, percentage, mean, Continuity Correction, Pearson Chi-Square and Fisher Exact tests were used to evaluate the data. Results: Of the nurses, 90.8% were women, the average age was 27.01 +/- 5.16 (20-48) years and 86.1% had undergraduate or higher education. Of the nurses, 84.6% knew that they were supervised by a hemovigilance nurse. Nurses (43.1%) who received training on the hemovigilance system had higher levels of knowing that each unit of blood taken from the donor follows the final destination (100.0%) than the nurses who did not receive training (p <0.05). The nurses who knew that they were supervised during transfusion related processes performed the following steps at a higher rate than those who did not know that they were inspected (p <0.05): Wearing gloves before the application (100.0%), using appropriate branches in children (87.3%), obtaining written consent before blood transfusion (100.0%), and completing the blood transfusion within a maximum of four hours (87.3%) were higher than nurses who did not know that they were supervised (p <0.05). Also; the majority of nurses (90.8%) were determined to use the current procedures for blood transfusions. Conclusion: In line with the findings of the study, it was stated that the nurses who were educated about the hemovigilance system and who knew that they were supervised by the hemovigilance nurse, had high hemovigilance system usage.

Demirag, Hatice; Hintistan, Sevilay
Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2. Patients undergoing chronic hemodialysis treatment are at a high risk of serious complications if infections occur because of suppressed immune system, cardiovascular disease, and important comorbidities, such as diabetes mellitus. To control and prevent the spread of the outbreak to patients and other healthcare professionals, it is necessary to be informed about COVID-19, to diagnose cases early, and to be treated. The purpose of this review is to discuss the communication, transport, predialysis screening and triage, and COVID-19 nursing management in patients undergoing hemodialysis treatment.

Demirağ, Hatice; Hintistan, Sevilay
Pet therapy or animal-assisted therapy is a form of adjunctive nonpharmacologic treatment that stimulates physiological and psychological diseases with interactions between animals and animals that meet certain criteria and stimulates the necessary body mechanisms in the development of human health and behavior. In many studies using robot simulations with many domestic animals such as cats, dogs, birds and fish, the benefits of pet therapy on the elderly health and behavior have been proven. However, there is no clear information about the use of elderly in the treatment of schizophrenia and depression.Therapy has been proven by epidemiological studies that can reduce blood pressure in elderly and hypertensive individuals and reduce the risk of complications in those with cardiovascular disease by increasing physical activity when administered together with conducting dogs. Despite the fact that studies on pet therapy are inadequate and generally have not yet been implemented in our country, pet ownership is increasing due to the positive subjective feelings that many people have against animals. In this article; The effects on the elderly health of pet therapy applications have been examined in the light of the literature.

Low back pain due to the effects of lumbar disc herniation is a common complaint of patients who often subsequently seek help from medical professionals. It is also a significant health problem which is quite difficult to treat. This descriptive study was conducted to determine nonmedical methods used by patients with lumbar disc herniation to relieve low back pain; the patients' intensity of low back pain when they were admitted to the hospital was also explored. Ninety-two patients with lumbar disc herniation participated in this study, which was carried out at a university hospital in northeastern Turkey. Data were collected using a patient information form and the visual analog scale (VAS). When the patients were admitted to hospital, their mean VAS score was 6.56 ± 2.45. The study results showed that as a first choice nearly all of the patients (94.6%) with lumbar disc herniation preferred consulting with their physicians before to obtain relief for low back pain. However, in addition to seeing their physician, more than one-half of these patients (57.6%) also used nonmedical methods. The primary nonmedical methods were hot/cold compresses, wrapping various substances on the back, and herbal preparations. An increase in pain was noted by 17.0% of patients after using nonmedical methods. Findings indicated that more than two-thirds of patients experienced either no change or an increase in pain after using nonmedical methods to find relief.
