Özet

This study aims to overall evaluation the of the situation in the World and Turkey of forest and forest products certification systems within sustainable forest management. Findings have shown that the most common Forest Management Certification (FM) system is PEFC, across the world and the most common Chain of Custody Certification (CoC) system is FSC. On the other hand, double certification has been observed to be a growing trend in the certification of forest areas. The ratio of certified forests to the total forest area has reached to 28% level in Turkey. In our country, the certification interest of the enterprises especially in the paper and paper products sector was the highest, and this sector was observed to be followed by the enterprises from wood and wood products and fungi production sector. The FSC certification system distinguishes with a preference rate of 89% in CoC certification and 100% in FM certification. Results have shown that forest and forest products certification in our country is not enough and there are significant differences in the development of certification at the sub-sectors levels of forest products industry
