Eroğlu, Hasan; Oğuz, Yasin
Electric vehicles, which are an important part of sustainable energy technologies, occupy an important place in our daily life. More efficient use of electric vehicles will ensure more efficient use of sustainable energy sources. It is not possible for the human brain to determine the most efficient driving characteristics. In this study, energy efficient driving optimization of electric vehicles was realized. Along the route, optimum speeds were determined in terms of energy, by using the road and engine characteristics. Geographical information systems and genetic algorithm have been used effectively in the solution of the problem. The effectiveness of the proposed algorithm was revealed with many test studies. With this study, an algorithm that provides an energy-efficient driving for electrical vehicles was developed. The results will contribute to the development of electric vehicle technologies.
- MakaleYalnız künye2021Comparisons of different Maximum Power Point Tracking Strategies with Zeta Converter
Basoglu, Mustafa Engin
Maximum power point tracking (MPPT) strategy is one of the major parameters affecting efficiency in photovoltaic (PV) systems. In this paper, distributed MPPT approaches are compared with central mode MPPT. Advantages and disadvantages of submodule level MPPT technique and module level MPPT approach are shown with simulation studies. Comparisons are made with incremental conductance (IC) algorithm. In this context, non-isolated zeta converter is used as a power-processing unit. Effect of the MPPT strategy on the collected energy performance is observed by simulation studies performed in MATLAB/Simulink. It is clear by these studies that energy capture is bigger in submodule level MPPT strategy and module level MPPT with respect to central mode which is seen by simulations. However, central mode MPPT offers cost effective solution because of the low hardware requirements.

Gül, F.
Memristor-based resistive random access memory (RRAM) devices are very good competitors for next generation non-volatile crossbar memory applications. The sneak paths problem is one of the main constraints in fabricating crossbar memory devices. The one diode-one resistor (1D1R) structure design is effective for suppressing the sneak paths problem. Suitable circuit models are needed to simulate semiconductor structures.Ageneral circuit model for memristor-based one diode-one resistor structures is proposed in this work. The Simulation Program with Integrated Circuit Emphasis (SPICE) environment was used to simulate the designed circuit. Well-known mathematical models such as those of Strukov, Biolek, Joglekar, Prodromakis and Zha were used to simulate the memristor component of the circuit. The current-voltage characteristics were obtained for different mathematical models. All results were compatible with the expected characteristics. The best fit characteristics were acquired using the Zha and Strukov models.
- MakaleAçık Erişim2019An Approximate Short Circuit Strategy for Transient MPPT Performance of Uniformly Irradiated Photovoltaic Modules
Başoğlu, M. E.
This paper presents an improved strategy to provide better maximum power point tracking (MPPT) performance and increase energy yield during transient state of MPPT process. This strategy is based on the estimation of short circuit current (SCC) of the photovoltaic (PV) system without short circuit. Besides that, this strategy aims to decrease convergence time to maximum power point (MPP) by preventing real short circuit of PV source and eliminating the additional switch requirement. To determine performance of the proposed strategy, simulation studies have been performed in MATLAB/Simulink and this strategy has been compared with fractional SCC (FSCC) technique and perturb and observe (P&O) algorithm. In addition, to make validation experimentally, a low powered single ended primary inductance converter (SEPIC) is realized. Both simulation and experimental results show that proposed strategy performs better transient MPPT performance than FSCC technique and P&O algorithm.
- MakaleAçık Erişim2019Analyzes of Flyback DC-DC Converter for Submodule Level Maximum Power Point Tracking in Off-grid Photovoltaic Systems
Başoğlu, M. E.
Submodule level maximum power point tracking (MPPT) systems have become popular due to its outstanding performance in partial shading conditions (PSCs) and basic algorithm requirement. MPPT is realized by DC-DC converters. They are power processing units between photovoltaic (PV) module and resistive load. Among DC-DC converter topologies, the flyback is a proper choice since it can either increase or decrease the voltage. Furthermore, power level is small in submodule level (SML) MPPT applications. In this study, analyzes and power circuit design of a flyback converter for continuous conduction mode (CCM) is carried out firstly. Then, the performance of the flyback converter on the SML MPPT system and its superiority over the module level MPPT is shown by using same converter topology and perturb and observe (P&O) algorithm. In order to validate the superior performance of SML MPPT, it is compared with module level MPPT in MATLAB/Simulink environment. Results show that SML MPPT guarantees global MPPT in any PSCs with any kind of basic MPPT algorithm. On the other hand, module level MPPT fails in many PSCs with the same algorithm. According to simulation results, SML MPPT generated more power by 61.2% in average than module level MPPT systems in simulation studies.
