Gül, Zeynep; Tang, Mustafa; Yolcu, Halil
The effects of applications of zeolite, nitrogen and zeolite + nitrogen on yield, quality and some morphological traits of silage corn was researched at the Research Station of the Agriculture Faculty, University of Ataturk, Eastern Turkey, during 2012 and 2013. Treatments included a control, three zeolite (Z(1): 500, Z(2): 1000, Z(3): 1500 kg ha(-1)), three nitrogen (N-1: 50, N-2: 100, N-3: 150 kg ha(-1)) and nine combinations of zeolite + nitrogen. The experimental design was randomized complete blocks with three replications. The application of zeolite + nitrogen application enhanced silage yield by 5.8-18.9%, dry matter yield by 4.5-21.4%, corncob rate by 6.6%, plant height by 3.0-16.1% and leaf rate by 17.5%. Further, the application of zeolite + medium or low nitrogen application produced similar silage yield, dry matter yield, dry matter rate, crude protein content, ADF, NDF, corncob rate, stem rate, plant height and leaf rate in comparison to the highest level nitrogen application. The results indicate that the application of zeolite + nitrogen can be used to increase efficiency of nitrogen and to decrease nitrogen requirements in silage corn for yield and other parameters.

Okcu, Melih; Karabulut, Besim
Mankind caused a lot of harm to their environment unintentionally during agriculture. Thus nowadays production techniques that are compatible with nature, making the right use of the resources, targeting sustainable development, looking after animal welfare are beginning to spread throughout the world. Especially organic agriculture among those techniques gained a seat as it depends on customer preference. Organic agriculture that has the following five fundamental features: compatibility to nature, self sufficiency, sustainability, welfare, traceability began with the production of dried grape, dried figs, dried apricots and nuts in our country during the 1980s with the contractual agriculture system intending to export. During the following years, hardshell and dried fruits, frozen fruits and vegetables, fresh fruits and vegetables, spices and legumes followed the previous ones in export. Also, production and exportation of rose water, rose oil, olive oil, cotton and textile products increased considerably. In our country where there is a wide variety of products for organic agriculture, in eastern black sea region tea and nuts are the most cultivated products. Organic agriculture is carried out in every province of the region, the contribution of provinces in percentage as follows: Rize 42%, Ordu 25%, Artvin 13%, Trabzon 10%, Gumushane and Giresun 5%. Organic stock raising is done only in Gumushane and Ordu. Gumushane has the most promising potential for organic stock raising.

Different preservation and packing techniques are applied to maintain quality and safety during food transportation and storage. Changing in world and increasing consumer demands led to new techniques and procedures in packing. Light, easy opening, eco-friendly, bioplastic and edible packaging materials are improved to resolve problems that occured nowadays. Edible packaging material are environment-friendly because they decompose quickly in nature even if don't consume. In addition edible films increase food's organoleptic properties and support nutritional values when used with inserted supporting member. Fruits and vegetables are high sensitive product; therefore, attention should be paid while transporting and storing and they must be packed in the right way.. Delaying ripening and reducing loss of weight in fruit and vegetable could be supplied with edible films and coatings.
- Derleme MakaleAçık Erişim2018Problems Face to Organic Forage Plant Improvement and Their Recommended Solutions
Okcu, Melih
As the world's population increases tremendously, mankind harmed the environment by applying different techniques to be able to close the deficit for food and consequently this resulted in the questioning of the effects of production techniques on food security, quality, animal welfare and their impacts on environment. Organic agriculture is developed with the help of policies that are driven by environmental and food safety. Organic livestock farming increased correlated to the increase of organic agriculture. However, getting healthy, safe and sound products from animals is only possible with the consumption of well qualified feed. Nowadays, unsatisfactory field productions, improper soil cultivation methods and more other obstacles which restrict the improvement of forage plants. In this review article, the current situation of cultivation in Turkey as well as in the world, imperfections and solution offers to those problems are stated.
