In this study, nicotinamide complexes of Cu2⁺, Co2⁺, and Zn2⁺ furan-2-carboxylates were synthesized, and the crystal structures of the complexes were characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction. The chemical composition and functional groups of the complexes were confirmed using elemental analysis, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), ultraviolet–visible region (UV–Vis) spectroscopy, and mass spectrometry (MS). Hirshfeld surface analysis detailed the intermolecular interactions present in the crystal structures of the complexes. The complexes feature a central six-coordinate ion (Cu2⁺, Co2⁺, or Zn2⁺) located on an inversion center, which is bonded to two N atoms from nicotinamide and four O atoms from water molecules. There is a furan 2-carboxylate anion that is not coordinated with metal atoms but links to complex structures via hydrogen bonds. Within the scope of biochemical studies, the inhibitory effects of the synthesized complexes on acetylcholinesterase (AChE), butyrylcholinesterase (BChE), carbonic anhydrase I and II (hCA I, hCA II), and glutathione reductase (GR) enzymes were investigated by spectrophotometric methods. It was determined that the complexes, especially Complex 2, exhibited strong enzyme inhibition properties. Molecular docking analyses revealed the binding tendencies and binding energies of the complexes to the active sites of the enzymes. Complex 2 has a high binding affinity with AChE, BChE, hCA I, hCA II, and GR enzymes, and these bindings were supported by hydrogen bonds and π-π interactions. ADMET predictions showed that the complexes have toxicologically safe profiles despite their pharmacokinetic limitations, such as low gastrointestinal absorption and inability to cross the blood–brain barrier. It was determined that the risks of hepatotoxicity, carcinogenicity, immunotoxicity, and mutagenicity were low. As a result, these metal complexes are evaluated as potential therapeutic agents in the treatment of diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease, glaucoma, epilepsy, malaria, and cancer. The data obtained in this study emphasize the biological activities and pharmacological potential of the complexes, and it is recommended that they be supported by future in vivo studies.

Glutathione reductase (Glutathione: NADP+ oxidoreductase, EC 1.8.1.7; GR) catalyzes electron transfer between reduced (GSH) or high molecular weight (GSSG) disulfide substrates and reduced pyridine nucleotides (NADPH). Discovery of glutathione reductase (GR) inhibitors has become very popular recently due to antimalarial and anticancer activities. Enzymatic activity was measured by Beutler’s method with a Spectrophotometer, at 25°C. The assay system contained 100 mM Tris-HCl buffer pH 8.0, including 0.5 mM EDTA, 3.3 mM GSSG and 0.1 mM NADPH. Inhibition effects of Nitrobenzene (1), 3,5- Dinitrosalicylic acid (2), (2,4-Dinitrophenyl)((4-(prop1-en-2-yl)cyclohex-1-enyl)-methyl)sulfane (3), ((7,7- dimethylbicyclo[2.2.1]heptan-1-yl)methyl)-(2,4- dinitrophenyl)sulfane (4), and ((2-Chloro-7,7- dimethylbicyclo[2.2.1]heptan-1-yl)methyl)-(2,4- dinitrophenyl)sulfane (5) compounds on GR have been investigated in vitro. IC50 values were determined by drawing % activity- [I] graphs for compounds showing inhibition effects. IC50 values of GR for these substances were observed to be at micromolar level.

Kaya, Elif Çelenk; Ersoy, Sibel
According to the work health and safety law no:6331; employers of the corporations which is subjected to that law have to make the risk assessment or have it made. It is known that the best effective method of preventing the work accidents and occupational diseases is the risk assessment. By the risk assessment, potantial dangers and the risks sourced by them are revealed and thus, with effective precautions, preventations of the work accidents and occupational diseases are trying to be done. The laboratories as their nature, hosts serious dangers and the risks sourced by them. To eliminate or minimise these risks the implementations of collective protection precautions, taking series of precautions begining from the design and installation process, setting up the substructure of work safety, informing the employees about the dangerous situations and the education of laboratory safety has a great importance. Revealing the risk factors in the laboratories with the actual risk assessment methods and taking effective precautions in a short time is very important for work safety. There are limited number of studies in the literature that are subjected to the risk assessments of laboratories. In this study, using the control lists of the relevant ministry, danger and risks of six number of application and research laboratories of a state university food engineering department have been identifed and by the L type matrix method, the risk analysis study has been made. At the laboratories which this study has been made a total of 52 number of risks consist of 6 number of unacceptable risks, 24 number of high level risks, 19 number of middle level risks and 3 number of low level (acceptable) risk have been determined. A risk score has been generated for each risk and the average risk score of 15 high level risk has seen for all laboratories. By taking into consideration of the risk scores, providing the work health and security, a legal control and precaution operations which are sustainable and effective have been suggested.

Unlike the earlier nonlinear optical studies of single walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) which were generally carried out as solvent, in this study, we established to deposit the unsoluble SWCNTs as homogeneous thin films by blending them with phthalocyanines in PMMA host. The structural and morphological features of the thin films were studied by SEM and TEM imaging techniques while the linear, nonlinear-absorptions and carrier dynamic properties of the thin films were investigated with the UV–Vis spectrophotometer, open aperture Z-scan experiments and pump-probe technique, respectively. In addition, the optical limiting performances of the samples were calculated from nonlinear absorption spectra. It was observed that the linear- and nonlinear-absorptions and optical limiting performance of the thin films increased with the mixing of the SWCNT sample with the Pcs complexes. We have clearly explained the mechanisms contributing to the nonlinear optical absorption and optical limiting performances.

According to the Law on Occupational Health and Safety No. 6331 dated 30/06/2012, one of the important obligations of an employer is to make / have a 'Risk Assessment'. Besides the risk assessment, it is the employer's obligation to provide the occupational health and safety precautions that should be taken according to the risk assessment result, as well as the protective equipment to be used. Given the responsibility in this regard, employers should be familiar with the general information on risk assessment, such as the risk assessment team, periodic renewal period of the risk assessment according to hazard class, deadline, criminal sanctions if the risk assessment does not performed; they should examine the risk assessment prepared by the experts in detail; and they should have knowledge about the precautions that should be taken. If the employers do not place the necessary importance on the risk assessments prepared in order to eliminate or minimize the risks by taking the required precautions, the analysis will be on paper and not reach its real target. In this study, it was aimed to determine whether or not a risk assessments for less dangerous, dangerous and very dangerous workplaces in Gümüşhane was made, risk assessment knowledge of the employers and to what extent they examined the risk analyses prepared for their workplaces.

A series of hydroxy and phenolic compounds have been assayed for the inhibition of two physiologically relevant carbonic anhydrase (CA, EC 4.2.1.1) isozymes, the cytosolic human isozymes I and II. The investigated molecules showed inhibition constants in the range of 1.07-4003 and 0.09-31.5 μM at the hCA I and hCA II enzymes, respectively. In order to investigate the binding mechanisms of these inhibitors, in silico studies were also applied. Molecular docking scores of the studied compounds are compared using three different scoring algorithms, namely Glide/SP, Glide/XP and Glide/IFD. In addition, different ADME (absorption, distribution, metabolism and excretion) analysis was performed. All the examined compounds were found within the acceptable range of pharmacokinetic profiles.
