Tekinarslan, Merve; Kaya, Sıdıka
This study explores value-based payment reforms in healthcare, aiming to enhance productivity, efficiency, and quality of care by shifting the focus from quantity to value. Using a grounded theory approach and the Delphi technique, 28 healthcare stakeholders were selected through purposive sampling. Data were analysed with MAXQDA 2020, and value parameters were ranked by importance. Findings define value in healthcare as "a quality service," with participants supporting value-based repayment despite some limitations. Fifteen key value measurement parameters were identified. The study recommends addressing resistance to change and implementing necessary revisions for Türkiye to adopt this model successfully.
- MakaleAçık Erişim2026Energy Consumption in the EU: The Role of Productivity and Efficiency-Driven Technology; [AB’de Enerji Tüketimi: Üretkenlik ve Verimlilik Odaklı Teknolojinin Rolü]
Çakır, Mehmet Ali; Ökte, Mehmet Kutluğhan Savaş
This study investigates how productivity and productivity-intensive technologies affect energy consumption in selected EU countries from 1996 to 2021. Despite technological progress, fossil fuels still dominate, posing environmental and economic concerns. Using the AMG method, results show that multifactor productivity significantly reduces energy use, while productivity-intensive technologies offer smaller but meaningful reductions. In contrast to prior research linking technology to higher energy demand, this study highlights the importance of efficiency-focused innovation. Findings support the EU’s 2030 energy reduction target and suggest policymakers should prioritise productivity-intensive technologies, on-the-job training, and digital tools to decouple growth from energy consumption.

Yelboğa, Alim; Özdemir, Hakan; Üyümez, Mustafa Erkan
This study examines the impact of natural disasters, such as earthquakes, on tax compliance behaviour among taxpayers. Using quantitative and qualitative methods, it explores pre-and post-earthquake tax compliance, the role of government services, and changes in taxpayer behaviour. Findings reveal a positive relationship between pre-and post-earthquake tax compliance, while the direct effect of the earthquake experience is limited. Lessons from the earthquake and the impact of government services positively influence tax compliance. The study provides practical recommendations for post-disaster tax policies.
- MakaleAçık Erişim2025Effect of Credit Risk on Financial Performance of Deposit Banks in the BIST Bank Index; [Kredı̇ Rı̇skı̇ nı̇ n BIST Banka Endeksı̇ ndekı̇ Mevduat Bankalarının Fı̇ nansal Performansına Etkı̇sı̇ 2]
Erdoğdu, Aylin; Pala, Fahrettin
This study analyses the relationship between credit risk and the financial performance of nine Turkish deposit banks listed on Borsa Istanbul (BIST) from 2010 to 2021. Using panel data, it employs profitability ratios (ROA, ROE, NIM) as performance indicators, and various credit risk metrics (NLTA, NPL, TLTD, CAR) as explanatory variables. GDP growth and inflation are included as control variables. The credit risk rankings identified ICBC Turkey Bank A.Ş. as having the lowest credit risk and Şeker Bank A.Ş. as the highest, using the WASPAS multi-criteria decision-making technique.
- MakaleAçık Erişim2024Spatial Analysis of Economic Risk, Economic Freedom Index, Corruption Perceptions Index and Human Development Index; [Ekonomik Risk, Ekonomik Özgürlük İndeksi, Yolsuzluk Algısı İndeksi ve İnsani Gelişim İndeksi’nin Mekânsal Analizi]
Kalkan, Yusuf
This study aims to examine the spatial (neighbourhood) relations of 163 countries in terms of economic risk (ER), economic freedom index (EFI), corruption perception index (CPI) and human development index (HDI). Moran I, Geographically Weighted Regression (GWR) and Multiscale Geographically Weighted Regression (MGWR) methods were used for spatial analysis. The MGWR models demonstrated that countries globally have strong spatial relationships with their neighbouring countries regarding ER, EFI, and CPI but are not significant regarding HDI. This result can be explained by the fact that ER, EFI and CPI indicators are mostly related to the country's economy and that countries have become economically interdependent today. However, HDI may not have resulted in significant spatial relationships due to its focus on human quality of life and social-cultural differences among countries.
- MakaleAçık Erişim2023Analysis of The Causality Relationship Among Digitalisation, Unemployment Rate, and Divorce Rates: A Research on Türkiye; [Dijitalleşme, İşsizlik Oranı ve Boşanma Oranları Arasındaki Nedensellik İlişkinin Analizi: Türkiye Üzerine Bir Araştırma]
Koç, Pınar; İzgi-şahpaz, Kadriye
This study investigates the relationship between digitalisation, unemployment, and divorce rates in Türkiye by using the Fourier Toda Yamamoto Causality Test from 2007 to 2021. International Digital Economy and Society Index (I-DESI) has been used to indicate digitalisation. The results suggest that there is unilateral causality from digitalisation to divorce rates. However, there is no causality linkage between digitalisation and unemployment rates for the period 2007-2021. Moreover, there is no causal connection between unemployment rates and divorce rates. The findings show that digitalisation affects divorce rates by disrupting family communication.
- MakaleAçık Erişim2023The Effect of Foreign Aid and Governance on Economic Growth; [Dış Yardım ve Yönetişimin Büyüme Üzerindeki Etkileri]
Hayaloğlu, Pınar; Tümay, Muhammed
Foreign aid is essential in meeting the capital needs of countries that need more resources. However, in the literature, besides the view that foreign aid encourages economic performance, opinions suggest that it has adverse effects on recipient countries. Some ideas argue that the positive impact of foreign aid in recipient countries depends on the institutional quality level of the nations. We examine the relationships between foreign aid, the quality of governance, and economic growth using the dynamic panel data analysis method. The empirical analysis includes samples of 78 low-income countries that used foreign aid from 2000-2019. According to the findings, foreign aid affects economic growth negatively in sample countries. In addition, we find a positive relationship between the quality of governance and economic growth. In line with these findings, we can state that improvements in governance quality will positively impact economic development in the sample nations.
- MakaleAçık Erişim2022The Effect of Unemployment and Urbanization on Migration in Turkey: An Evaluation in terms of the Harris-Todaro Model; [Türkiye’de İşsizlik ve Kentleşmenin Göç Üzerindeki Etkisi: Harris-Todaro Modeli Açısından Bir Değerlendirme]
Sancar, Canan; Akbaş, Yusuf Ekrem
This study tested whether there was a relationship between migration, unemployment, and urbanization based on the Harris-Todaro model in 12 regions of Turkey, which were formed according to NUTS-1 classification, in the period between 2008 and 2019. For this purpose, panel data methods that consider cross-section dependency were used in the study. As a result of the analysis, it was concluded that the Harris-Todaro model was valid in TR1, TR2, TR3, TR4, TR5, and TR6 regions. In TR7, TR8, TR9, TRA, TRB, and TRC regions, it was found that the Harris-Todaro model was not valid.
- MakaleAçık Erişim2022The Effects of Income, Occupation and Education on Household Cigarette Consumption in Turkey; [Türkiye’de Gelir, Meslek ve Eğitimin Hanehalkı Sigara Tüketimi Üzerindeki Etkisi]
Yilmaz-Uğur, Candan; Saruç, Naci Tolga
This study aims to determine the variables affecting the cigarette consumption of households by employing logistic regression analysis based on the data of the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) 2017 Household Budget Survey (HBA). In this model, the variables that affect cigarette consumption, namely, gender, age, education level, marital status, occupation, and the total disposable income earned by the household head in a year, are used. The results of this study indicate that variables of income, occupation and education of the household head affect cigarette consumption in Turkey. In this context, it is expected that focusing on young people, low educated and income groups in the fight against smoking will increase the success of the policies implemented.
- MakaleAçık Erişim2021Relationship between Political and Financial Risks in Turkey: Evidence from Fourier Cointegration Analysis Regarding Institutional Structures; [Türkiye’de Politik ve Finansal Riskler Arasındaki İlişki: Kurumsal Yapılara Dair Fourier Eşbütünleşme Analizinden Kanıt]
Çiçen, Yıldırım Beyazıt
Institutional structure and quality of management are the main elements that form the political risks. Political threats are directly linked to the institutional structure and the institutional design. Political risks increase if the government mechanisms fail. Increasing institutional quality reduces the political risks and positively impacts the financial risks. Monthly data from different indices are used to analyse the relationship between Turkey's political risks and financial risks between 2002 and 2015. According to the Fourier analysis of cointegration, there is a long-term relationship between the political and financial risks. Besides, as per the Fully Modified Ordinary Least Squares (FMOLS) findings and the Dynamic Ordinary Least Squares (DOLS) models, an increase in the political risk increases the financial risk.
