Yolcu, Halil; Gunes, Adem; Dasci, Mahmut; Turan, Metin; Serin, Yunus
A field experiment was conducted to evaluate the effects of solid, liquid and the combination of solid and liquid cattle manure applications on the yield, quality and mineral content of common vetch (Vicia sativa L.) + barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) intercropping mixture in 2006-2007 at Gümüşhane, Turkey. The treatments were control (no manure), two liquid (L1 = 10 000 L ha-1 liquid cattle manure and L2 = 20 000 L ha-1 liquid cattle manure), two solid (S1 = 20 ton ha-1 solid cattle manure, S2= 40 ton ha-1 solid cattle manure) and four different combinations of liquid and solid cattle manure applications (S1L1 = 20 ton ha-1 solid cattle manure + 10 000 L ha-1 liquid cattle manure, S1L2 = 20 ton ha-1 solid cattle manure + 20 000 L ha-1 liquid cattle manure, S2L1 = 40 ton ha-1 solid cattle manure + 10 000 L ha-1 liquid cattle manure, and S2L2 = 40 ton ha-1 solid cattle manure + 20 000 L ha-1 liquid cattle manure). Total forage dry matter yield (TFDMY), crude protein content (CP), crude protein yield (CPY), acid detergent fiber (ADF), neutral detergent fiber (NDF), dry matter intake (DMI), dry digestible matter (DDM), relative feed value (RFV) and mineral contents (Mg, Ca, K, P, Na, Mn, Zn, Fe and Cu) were determined to evaluate the effects of different cattle manure applications on intercropping mixtures. Solid, liquid and the combined cattle manure treatments had no effect on the TFDMY, CPY, ADF, NDF, DMI, DDM, RFV, Mg, Ca, K, Mn and Zn of the intercropping mixture except CP (p<0.01), P (p<0.01), Na (p<0.05), Fe (p<0.05) and Cu (p<0.05) in the first year. The treatments had significant effects on TFDMY (p<0.01), CP (p<0.01), ADF (p<0.05), NDF (p<0.01), DMI (p<0.01), DDM (p<0.05), RFV (p<0.01) and Zn (p<0.01) values of the intercropping mixture except CPY, Mg, Ca, K, P, Na, Mn, Fe and Cu in the second year. The results of the study revealed that the common vetch and barley intercropping mixture can be fertilized with 40 ton ha-1 solid cattle manure to improve the yield and quality. But if mineral content of forage is more important than yield and quality for the farmer, then it may be fertilized with 20 ton ha-1 solid cattle manure.

International agreements have been changed in the environmental approaches to protection and planning systems. It is one of the changing forestry activities that multi-purpose planning and decision-making techniques. In addition, the Model Forest Networks has been aimed to share more beautiful forest environments for future generations. Forestry activities into model forests have been integrated to change to different concepts. International Model Forest Network wants to ensure that people ensuring the development of economic and socio-cultural field, and the sustainable management of the environment. Yalova has been accepted for membership of the model forest network in 2011. It is described to occurring in the process of accession to the model forest stages. Model forest area covers in the province of Yalova. The forests in Yalova have been targeted by the operation such as economic, ecological, and socio-cultural services and values. In this sense to model forest, it can be counted income sources not only the production of wood and non-wood products but also eco-tourism, thermal tourism, local markets and beekeeping activities exhibited cultural values. The promotion of all activities in the international arena is great to contribute to related forest sectors including creation of market conditions, sociological, economic and ecological sense. The first approach to model forest network prepared the strategic plan for the operation of participatory approaches. Creation of strategic plans in model forest will be reached more easily to determine all targets. Since we identified deficiencies of for planning in the model forests, we will be more reliable to prepare ecosystem-based multi-purpose forests plans. If the model forest applications are protected natural ecosystem, this model forest network will continue to be spread in Turkey and the world.

Gümrük, Recep; Mazlum, Uʇur; Mines, R.A.W.
This article investigates compressive and energy absorption characteristics for composites obtained by filling stainless steel micro lattice materials, manufactured via the selective laser melting method, with three different rubbers, including room temperature vulcanization silicone, natural rubber, and neoprene rubber. At the stage of building the composites with natural and neoprene rubbers, an experimental setup was designed for these two rubbers to be infiltrated into lattice spaces under vulcanization temperatures and high pressures. The results showed that the composites with silicone and neoprene matrix had a quite similar response as well as a seriously enhanced energy absorbing capacity and plateau stresses, in comparison with the corresponding lattice structures, for especially small sized lattice components. Also, the compression tests of the composite with natural rubber matrix clearly show that there should be no large differences between the individual mechanical properties of each component in the composite, and, in this way, the contribution of each component on the mechanical behavior of composite should be guaranteed to provide the satisfying performance.

Plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) appeared as a promising alternative for organic fertilization. A field experiment was carried out to evaluate the effects of PGPR and solid cattle manure application on yield, quality, and mineral concentrations of Italian ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum Lam.) under semi arid conditions in Turkey. The treatments included: three manure application rates (i.e. M1, 10; M2, 20; and M3, 30 Mg ha -1), five PGPR strains (i.e. RC11, Bacillus subtilis; RC21, Variovorax paradoxus; RC105, Paenibacillus polymyxa; RP24/3, Paenibacillus polymyxa; and RF29/2, Pseudomonas putida), and a control (without bacteria or manure application). Manure application did not increase yield of Italian ryegrass, whereas the treatments with RC21 and RP24/3 rhizobacteria provided the highest dry matter yield. All PGPR and manure applications increased crude protein concentration of Italian ryegrass. The M3 manure rate and most treatments with PGPR (except RC11) produced greater crude protein yield than that of control. In addition, concentrations of P, S, Mg, Cu, Zn, and Fe in most PGPR and manure applications were greater than those of control.

Kilinc, Kagan; Demir, Selim; Turan, Ibrahim; Mentese, Ahmet; Orem, Asim; Sonmez, Mehmet; Aliyazicioglu, Yuksel
Although several studies have investigated the cytotoxic effects of different Rosa species, there has been only limited research into the cytotoxic effect of Rosa canina. The purpose of this research was to evaluate the antioxidant properties, phenolic characterization, and cytotoxic effects of R. canina on human lung (A549) and prostate (PC-3) cancer cells and the possible mechanisms involved. The antioxidant properties and phenolic characterization of the extract were determined using spectrophotometric methods and RP-HPLC, respectively. The cytotoxic activity of the extract was determined using the MTT assay. The mechanism involved in the extract’s cytotoxic effect was then evaluated in terms of apoptosis, the cell cycle, mitochondrial membrane potential (MMP), and caspase activity using fluorometric and luminometric methods. The TPC value of the extract was 58.97 ± 2.22 mg gallic acid equivalents per gram sample, and ascorbic acid and p-coumaric acid were detected as major phenolics in the extract. R. canina extract exhibited a selective cytotoxic effect on A549 and PC-3 cells compared to normal fibroblast cells. The extract induced cell cycle arrest at the G1 phase and apoptosis via reduced MMP and increased caspase activity in these cells. Phytomedical applications of R. canina may represent promising approaches in the treatment of cancer.

- MakaleYalnız künye2021Scopus SJRQ2Optimization of ohmic heating assisted hydrodistillation of cinnamon and bay leaf essential oil
Tunç, Merve Tuğçe; Koca, İlkay
In this work, optimum ohmic heating assisted hydrodistillation (OAHD) conditions for extraction of cinnamon (CEO) and bay leaf (BEO) essential oil were determined by response surface methodology (RSM). OAHD were compared with conventional hydrodistillation (HD). Hydrodistillation time (30–120 min), mass of sample (20–40 g) and voltage gradient (7.5–12.5 V/cm), were varied to maximize essential oil (EO) yield and minimize energy consumption. Optimized OAHD conditions were determined as 119.90 min, 8.83 V/cm and 40 g, and 120 min, 8.53 V/cm and 40 g for CEO and BEO, respectively. EO yields of cinnamon and bay leaves at optimum conditions were found 3.98 ± 0.25% and 1.36 ± 0.14%, respectively. Energy consumptions were found 0.42 ± 0.02 and 0.86 ± 0.09 kWh/g EO for CEO and BEO, respectively. EO yield of OAHD was found to be higher when compared with HD methods for both plant materials. Energy consumptions and emitted CO2 values of OAHD method were significantly (p < 0.05) lower than HD methods. Cinnamaldehyde (CEO) and eucalyptol (BEO) contents of essential oils extracted with OAHD were higher when compared with HD methods. Antioxidant activities of essential oils extracted with different methods were not significantly different. CEO and BEO formed inhibition zones against all tested microorganism strains. Practical Applications: Essential oils of cinnamon bark and bay leaf are commonly used for food and pharmaceutical industries and, have important economic value. Conventional hydrodistillation method to extraction essential oils is time consuming, requires more energy and has more CO2 emission rates. Ohmic heating assisted hydrodistillation as a novel technology, is a promising method to extraction of essential oils from different plant materials with lower process times and energy consumption when compared with conventional hydrodistillation. Ohmic heating assisted hydrodistillation method can developed with regard to scale up as a green technology to essential oil production. This work provides a knowledge about the effects of different OAHD process variables on essential oil yield and energy consumption for cinnamon bark and bay leaf essential oils. It is expected that the outcomes of this study will be useful for the designing of large scale ohmic heating assisted hydrodistillation units.

- MakaleAçık Erişim2021Scopus SJRQ1Effect of cellulose nanofiber-based coating with chitosan and trans-cinnamaldehyde on the microbiological safety and quality of cantaloupe rind and fresh-cut pulp. Part 2: Quality attributes
Ozturk, Samet; Zhang, Jin; Singh, Rakesh K.; Kong, Fanbin
The quality characteristics of fruits and vegetables can be protected with coatings. The presented study aimed to evaluate the effect of cellulose nanofiber (CNF) based coatings with chitosan (CHI) and trans-cinnamaldehyde (TC) on the quality attributes, including weight loss, total soluble solid (TSS) content, firmness, and color of whole and fresh-cut cantaloupe during storage at 22 °C and 4 °C, respectively. Results showed that CNF-based coating was effective in protecting whole cantaloupes from firmness reduction and color change in redness/greenness (a*) and yellowness/blueness (b*) during room-temperature storage for up to 11 days. Coating containing only CNF was not able to prevent the quality changes of fresh-cut cantaloupe during the cold storage, but CNF + CHI/CNF + CHI + TC significantly decreased the weight loss, decelerated the firmness increase and maintained the lightness (L*) of fresh-cut cantaloupe for up to 7 days. The incorporation of chitosan (1%, w/w) improved the protection effect of CNF-based coatings against quality changes during storage for both whole and fresh-cut cantaloupes, but TC (1%, w/w) did not show significant enhancement on the protection effects of coatings for most quality attributes. This study indicates that the CNF-based coatings have the potential to maintain quality attributes of whole and fresh-cut fruits during storage and distribution.

Çavdar, Özlem
The sensitivities of a structural response due to variation of its design parameters are prerequisite in the majority of the algorithms used for fundamental problems in engineering as system uncertainties, identification and probabilistic assessments etc. The paper presents the concept of probabilistic sensitivity of suspension bridges with respect to near-fault ground motion. In near field earthquake ground motions, large amplitude spectral accelerations can occur at long periods where many suspension bridges have significant structural response modes. Two different types of suspension bridges, which are Bosporus and Humber bridges, are selected to investigate the near-fault ground motion effects on suspension bridges random response sensitivity analysis. The modulus of elasticity is selected as random design variable. Strong ground motion records of Kocaeli, Northridge and Erzincan earthquakes are selected for the analyses. The stochastic sensitivity displacements and internal forces are determined by using the stochastic sensitivity finite element method and Monte Carlo simulation method. The stochastic sensitivity displacements and responses obtained from the two different suspension bridges subjected to these near-fault strong-ground motions are compared with each other. It is seen from the results that near-fault ground motions have different impacts stochastic sensitivity responses of suspension bridges. The stochastic sensitivity information provides a deeper insight into the structural design and it can be used as a basis for decision-making.

Acet, Tuba; Ozcan, Kadriye; Zengin, Gokhan
In the present study, we aimed to search and compare the biological activities of the ethanol (EtOH), methanol (MeOH), and ethylacetate (EtOAc) solvent extracts of the flower, stem, and root parts of two Helichrysum plants (H. chionophilum (Hc) and H. plicatum subsp. plicatum (Hp)). The antioxidant properties were determined by using (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl) (DPPH) and ABTS (2,2′-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) (ABTS) assays. The enzyme inhibitory effects of the extracts were investigated on butyrylcholinesterase (BChE), acetylcholinesterase (AChE), α-glucosidase, and α-amylase. Palmitic acid (C 16:0) was also determined as major fatty acids in the tested oils (31.21%–67.68%). In both plants, it was found that the EtOAc extracts of the flowers had a strong antioxidant and enzyme inhibitory effect. In conclusion, the results obtained in the present study showed that H. chionophilum and H. plicatum can be seen as a promising source for the natural bioactive compounds that can be used in therapeutic applications. Practical applications: The members of the genus Helichrysum have been widely taken for therapeutic purposes in traditional medicine as well as food. In this context, we investigated the chemical characterization and biological activities of two Helichrysum species extracts (H. chionophilum and H. plicatum subsp. plicatum). Antioxidant capacity, enzyme inhibition and anti-microbial effects were tested for biological activities. Chemical characterization was identified by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) (for phenolic) and gas chromatography-flame ioanization detector (GC-FID) (for fatty acids). Based on our findings, the species may be valuable for designing novel food products.

Seçer, İsmail; Ulaş, Sümeyye
In addition to the serious physical and medical effects on individuals, the COVID-19 pandemic is likely to have short- and long-term psycho-social consequences, especially for young people. Nowadays, with psychological problems becoming more widely recognized in adolescents, it is possible that the fear and anxiety caused by the pandemic will trigger various anxiety disorders, OCD and similar negative outcomes. Considering that psychological qualities such as emotional reactivity and experiential avoidance observed in adolescents may increase the risk of such psycho-social disorders, in this study the relationship between fear of COVID-19 and OCD was investigated in a Turkish sample of 598 adolescents, and the mediating role of emotional reactivity, experiential avoidance and depression-anxiety in this relationship was examined. The data collection was performed online rather than in person because of the COVID-19 threat. A structural equation model was used to determine the direct and indirect predictive effects between variables in data analysis. The results of the study show that the effect of COVID-19 fear on OCD is mediated by emotional reactivity, experiential avoidance and depression-anxiety.

Öztürk, Serkan; Beker, Yasemin; Sari, Mahmut; Pehlıvan, Levent
In this study, an attempt was made to estimate the ground types for Torul, Kürtün, Kelkit, Şiran and Köse districts of Gümüşhane, Turkey, by analyzing the predominant frequency and H/V ratio from microtremor data through the single station microtremor H/V ratio of Nakamura technique. For all districts, predominant frequencies show a general distribution between 1.36 and 9.84 Hz, H/V ratios between 1.01 and 9.58. According to these variations, three transient zones can be suggested as i) Z1, stiff rock composed of gravel, sand and other soils mainly consisting of tertiary or older layers with period of 0.1 to 0.2s, ii) Z2, sandy gravel, stiff sandy clay, loam or sandy alluvial deposits whose depths are 5m or greater with period of 0.2 to 0.4s, and iii) Z3, standard grounds other than type Z1, Z2 or Z4 (alluvial deposits whose depths are 5m or greater) with period of 0.4 to 0.8s. These r esults s uggest that p redominant period obtained from predominant frequency shows significant changes based on the soil formation, and H/V ratio highly corresponds to these subsurface properties. Soil-structure interaction can also be evaluated by considering these results and possible resonance risk can be investigated for building resonant frequency in these residential districts in the next. Thus, this type of application and evaluation of microtremor data may provide primary and useful information for other geophysical, geological and geotechnical studies such as planning the seismic resistant infrastructure, detecting the small-scale seismic risks and making a suitable and reliable seismic hazard microzonation in Gümüşhane. Kose, Oguz; Oktay, Tugrul
In recent years, the interest in unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) has increased. They have penetrated into all areas of life. However, studies on UAV control have been a frequently discussed topic by researchers. In this study, a hexarotor in which yaw flight is tried to be controlled by changing the arm lengths during flight (morphing) is discussed. The hexarotor mathematical model is linearly derived using Newton's equations of motion. The equations of motion are modeled using the state space model approach. Hexarotor has been drawn in Solidworks program in accordance with the reality of all morphing states. Morphing estimation and accordingly proportional-integral-derivative (PID) coefficients were estimated using Simultaneous Perturbation Stochastic Approximation (SPSA). SPSA was preferred because it converged to the optimum result faster than similar algorithms. Hexarotor simulations were performed in Matlab/Simulink environment. Hexarotor yaw flight stability was achieved by minimizing the SPSA generated cost function based on design performance criteria. The cost function converged in 3-4 iterations and approached the optimum result. Accordingly, the design performance criteria have also improved and successfully followed the given trajectory.

Wang, Bin; Benli, Emrah; Motai, Yuichi; Dong, Lili; Xu, Wenhai
This paper addresses a problem on infrared maritime target detection robustly in various situations. Its main contribution is to improve the infrared maritime target detection accuracy in different backgrounds, for various targets, using multiple infrared wave bands. The accuracy and the computational time of traditional infrared maritime searching systems are improved by our proposed Local Peak Singularity Measurement (LPSM)-Based Image Enhancement and Grayscale Distribution Curve Shift Binarization (GDCSB)-Based Target Segmentation. The first part uses LPSM to quantize the local singularity of each peak. Additionally, an enhancement map (EM) is generated based on the quantitative local singularity. After multiplying the original image by the EM, targets can be enhanced and the background will be suppressed. The second part of GDCSB-Based Target Segmentation calculates the desired threshold by cyclic shift of the grayscale distribution curve (GDC) of the enhanced image. After binarizing the enhanced image, real targets can be segmented from the image background. To verify the proposed algorithm, experiments based on 13,625 infrared maritime images and five comparison algorithms were conducted. Results show that the proposed algorithm has solid performance in strong and weak background clutters, different wave bands, different maritime targets, etc.

- Kitap BölümüYalnız künye2022Creating Loyal Customers with Digital Marketing Applications: The 5A Model
Polat, Eray
As a result of the effects of the digital revolution, it became very difficult for brands to attract the attention of consumers, to sustain this, and to eventually turn them into loyal customers. In this context, the primary purpose of the chapter is to examine how the brand-customer interaction is realized in the way of creating loyal customers with digital marketing activities. The secondary important goal in this section is to provide examples of digital marketing practices carried out by tourism companies in Asian countries to create loyal customers. Also in this section, which subcultures are more important in terms of digital marketing and what are the basic skills that businesses should have in building loyalty in the digital age. When the relevant literature is examined, it can be said that in the context of the Asian tourism industry, this area is left under-researched. In this context, secondary data, generated from the existing literature, were used to collect data. According to the results obtained, Kotler, Kartajaya, and Setiawan (2017)’s 5A (Awareness, Appeal, Ask, Act and Advocacy) model, developed instead of the AIDA (Attention, Interest, Desire and Action) model, consisting of aware, appeal, ask, act, and advocacy stages can be proposed as an important model that can integrate the developments in the digital age into brand-customer interaction. While the subcultures that businesses should focus more on attaining loyal customers are youths, women, and Internet citizens (netizens), the basic skills that businesses should have can be expressed as automation, proactive personalization, contextual interaction, and innovation. It is observed that the activities carried out by the tourism companies in Asian countries to create a loyal customer base are concentrated on the loyalty programs in general. It can be said that these programs, which bring various monetary rewards to users, are also integrated with digital technologies. Besides, it has been observed that businesses concentrate more on aware and appeal stages. However, to obtain a loyal customer group more easily in the digital age, businesses need to carry out activities that may attract the attention of consumers during the ask, act, and advocacy stages.

Ercikdi, Bayram; Külekci, Gökhan; Yilmaz, Tekin
This study presents the utilisation of granulated marble wastes (MW) as an additive (10-30 wt%) and waste bricks (WB) as replacement and additive (15-45 wt%) to ordinary Portland cement (OPC) for cemented paste backfill (CPB) of sulphide tailings. OPC was used as binder at 7 wt% dosage. Pozzolanic activity tests showed that the fineness of the WB samples, not the chemical composition, is the major factor affecting their pozzolanic activity. Although they do not exhibit any pozzolanic activity, the use of MW samples as an additive to OPC improves acid buffering capacity of CPB samples and enhances their short and long-term mechanical performance. The UCSs of CPB samples increased with increasing additive rates and decreased with increasing replacement ratios. All CPB samples produced the desired strength and durability when MW and WB were used as an additive to OPC. However, a binder dosage of >7 wt% was required to produce the desired 28-day strength of ≥0.7 MPa when the OPC was replaced by 15-45 wt% WB samples. The durability (i.e. no loss of strength) of CPB samples is closely inter-related with the calcination temperatures and glass phase content of WB.
