    Muslu, Ozge Nur; Uluç, Sait

This study explores the psychological and emotional impacts of infertility treatments on couples. Utilizing Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis, this qualitative research delves into the shared experiences of five couples undergoing fertility treatments, uncovering the deep-seated personal and relational dynamics of their journeys. Three key themes were identified: From Hope to Exhaustion: Navigating the Emotional Rollercoaster of Treatment, Redefining Togetherness: Making Sense of Infertility as a Couple, and Networks of Care: Negotiating Support Within and Beyond the Couple. Study explores how couples undergoing in vitro fertilization construct shared meaning around their experiences and how the process shapes their relational and psychological dynamics. This study adopts a couple-based interpretative phenomenological approach to reveal how partners co-construct meaning, manage shared distress, and experience relational growth during infertility treatment. It offers new insights into the dyadic processes that foster resilience amid infertility.

Yücel, İbrahim; Türkkan, Tuğba; Yoldaş, Nergiz; Duman, Münevver

This study aimed to find out the experiences and coping styles of young adults affected by the Kahramanmaraş-centered earthquakes that took place on 6 February 2023, during and after the earthquake. Qualitative research method and phenomenological approach were used in the study. In-depth interviews were conducted with 33 young adults who were selected using the purposive sampling technique. The interviews with earthquake survivors were conducted approximately two months after the earthquake and took place in the temporary housing facilities to which they had been relocated. The research findings showed that many young people experienced the night of the earthquake as an unforgettable night. It was also found that the support provided after the earthquake was inadequate to meet the needs of survivors. Certain changes occurred in the family relations and personality traits of survivors after the earthquake. Young adults experienced some difficulties after the earthquake and developed a series of coping mechanisms to overcome such difficulties. At the end of the research, recommendations are made for field workers and policy makers from a psychological perspective.

Patients' Experiences With Complementary and Alternative Treatments to Manage Chemotherapy Symptoms: A Phenomenological Study

    Özmaya, Esma; Uzun, Sevda

This phenomenological study aims to explore the experiences of individuals undergoing chemotherapy, focusing on their symptoms and the use of complementary and alternative treatments to cope with these challenges. Thirteen individuals diagnosed with cancer in a city in the central region of Turkey were interviewed using a semi-structured, in-depth approach in this phenomenological study. The criterion sampling method was employed to select participants, and interviews continued until data saturation was achieved. Thematic analysis was applied to the audio-recorded and transcribed interviews. The study adhered to the COREQ checklist for reporting qualitative research. The data analysis revealed 2 main categories (effects of cancer and chemotherapy on individuals, the use of complementary and alternative treatments to cope with the symptoms of patients receiving chemotherapy) and 6 themes (psychological effects, social impacts, physical effects, social practices, psychological practices, and physical practices). The study demonstrated that individuals faced significant psychological, physical, and social challenges due to cancer, posing difficulties in coping. The symptoms had a substantial negative impact on individuals. The research identified the use of various alternative methods, such as yoga, the Mediterranean diet, and music therapy, as coping strategies. It is recommended that individuals undergoing chemotherapy explore complementary and alternative treatment methods to effectively manage symptoms.

Ulutaşdemir, Nilgün; Ay, Halil; Göçmen, Adalet; Uzun, Sevda; Kulakaç, Nurşen

OBJECTIVE: To determine the practices and coping experiences of the relatives of patients with pressure injuries (PIs). METHODS: The authors used a qualitative, phenomenologic research design. They interviewed 20 relatives of patients with PIs face-to-face using an in-depth semistructured interview form. The data were analyzed using the Colaizzi phenomenologic method. RESULTS: Three categories, 8 main themes, and 22 subthemes emerged from the interviews. The category of “the impact of the need for care on the lives of the patient’s relatives” was analyzed according to psychological, social, and physical effects. In the category of “practices to prevent pressure injuries,” two themes emerged: practices toward the patient and the environment. Relatives of individuals with PIs have psychological, physical, and social needs. CONCLUSIONS: Providing care to a patient with PIs has psychological, social, and physical effects on the patient’s relatives. The care burden mostly affects these caregivers negatively, and they mainly need time for themselves and moral and companion support.
