Demir Doğan, Melike
Introduction: This study analyses bibliometric indicators to assess global research trends on Reiki, including publication patterns and key contributing countries. Methods: The publications included in Web of Science (WOS) databases between 1970 and 2024 were reviewed. The WOS database was searched using TS= “REIKI” and all WOS indexes were included. This search identified 414 studies. Among them, letters (n = 7), editorial materials (n = 19), book reviews (n = 9), corrections (n = 2), art and poetry (n = 1), news (n = 1), and retracted publications (n = 1) were removed. The remaining 374 articles were included in this bibliometric analysis. The R-package for bibliometric analysis (Bibliometrix) was used. Results: The bibliometric analysis found that researchers published Reiki-related studies between 1983 and 2024, with a publication growth rate of 4.47 %. On average, articles were 9.5 years old and received 13 citations per document. The total number of keywords identified by the authors was 553, the number of authors in the articles was 1124 authors, the number of single-author articles was 70, the average number of publications per author was 3.5, and international co-authorships were 7.219 %. The USA, Brazil, the United Kingdom, Canada, and Turkiye were the top five countries that published on Reiki, respectively. The USA, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, and Turkiye were the top five countries with the most cited articles, respectively. Vitale A. is the most cited author. Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine is the most cited journal. Conclusion: This study is the first of its kind to evaluate the articles written by researchers in the field of Reiki only. Despite the difficulties researchers experienced in the field of Reiki, the studies have increasingly been conducted in this field over the years and have been cited studies more. This study may be helpful for researchers to determine productive countries, journals, authors, and emerging trends in Reiki by providing comprehensive analyses and structured information on this subject.

The authors wish to inform that the correct abstract for the article is given below: Objective: Pain is one of the most common symptoms and may lead to important psychological, mental, and physiological problems in individuals. According to data by The Center for Reiki Research, Reiki is an effective approach to decrease the levels of pain, depression, and anxiety. Therefore, the aim of this meta-analysis was to investigate the effect of Reiki on pain level. Methods: Randomized controlled clinical trials in databases of Pubmed, ISI Web of Sciences, and Google Scholar were investigated. Four randomized controlled studies which involving 212 participants were included in the meta-analysis. Results: The result obtained after the final Reiki application was evaluated in VAS pain score. When Reiki (n = 104) group was compared with control group (n = 108), standardized mean difference was observed to be −0.927 (95% CI: −1.867 to 0.0124). Conclusion: Consequently, meta-analysis shows there is a trend towards lower pain scores after Reiki intervention. It is recommended to repeat the study when the number of studies with specific patient groups and types of pain increase. The authors would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused.

Background: Fatigue, stress and pain are common symptoms among cancer patients, affecting the quality of life. The purpose of the present study was to determine the effect of distant Reiki on pain, anxiety and fatigue in oncology patients. Materials and Methods: Participants in the control group received usual medical and nursing care during their stay. The intervention group received usual care plus five distant Reiki sessions, one each night for 30 min. A face to face interview was performed and patient personal and illness related characteristics were evaluated using the Patient Characteristics form. Pain, stress and fatigue were evaluated according to a numeric rating scale. Results: The experimental group was predominantly composed of women (71.4%), married individuals (40%), and primary school graduates (40%). The control group was predominantly male (72.7%), married (60%), and primary school graduates (60%). The control group demonstrated greater levels of pain (p=0.002), stress (p=0.001) and fatigue (p=0.001). The Reiki group pain score (p < 0.0001), stress score (p < 0.001) and fatigue score were also significantly lower. Conclusions: The results of this study indicate that Reiki may decreasepain, anxiety and fatigue in oncology patients.
