- BildiriYalnız künye2017Determination of the genesis of tertiary aged volcanic rocks in the gümüşhane (Ne Türkiye) with gamma ray spectrometer method
Maden, N.; Akaryali, E.; Aydınçakır, E.
Eastern Pontide orogenic belt located in the Alp-Himalayan fold belt is divided into three subzones such as northern, southern and axial zones. These zones are controlled by the NE, NW and E-W directed fault systems. The study area whose geodynamic evolution is still debated is situated in the southern zone of the Eastern Pontide Orogenic belt. The views proposed for the geodynamic evolution of the eastern Pontides can be grouped into three. The geodynamic evolution of the region and genesis of the volcanic rocks are evaluated with a total 305 gamma ray spectrometer measurements surveyed at the Tertiary aged rocks in the Gümüşhane area. Total abundances of thorium ranges from 0.12ppm to 2.97 ppm, from 0.27ppm to 2.32 ppm for uranium, and from 0.09 % to 8.72 % for potassium. The average contents of radioelement concentrations computed over all measurements is: 0.85 (±0.33sd), 1.2(±0.54sd) ppm and 0.57 (±0.63sd) %, for U, Th and K, respectively. Numerical results verify that the parental magma of the Tertiary aged volcanic rocks probably derived from an enriched mantle originated from upper continental crust, previously metasomatized by subducted derived fluids..

Maden, N.
The Black Sea is a marginal sea represented by the Caucasus to the east, by the Balkanides-Pontides to the south and southwest, the Crimean Mountains to the north, and young platforms (Moesian and Scythian) to the west and northwest. The Black Sea basin is divided into two parts, Western and Eastern, separated by the Mid Black Sea ridge. The origin of the eastern Black Sea basin and Pontides orogenic belt is still controversial due to lack of systematical geological, geophysical and geochemical data. It is widely accepted that the eastern Pontides orogenic belt was shaped by northward subduction of Neotethys or Paleotethys oceanic lithosphere during the late Mesozoic and the Black Sea basin opened as a back-arc basin behind the eastern Pontides magmatic arc. In this study, the tectonic elements of the Black Sea basin are investigated by using satellite gravity data. The time of formation of Black Sea basin occurred from Paleozoic to Mesozoic, showing the Black Sea is a remnant of the Paleotethys Ocean. The numerical studies give the indication of southward subduction model for the origin of the Pontides during late Mesozoic-Cenozoic and compressional tectonic regime is still active in the Eastern Black Sea region.
- BildiriYalnız künye2017Regional and temporal evaluation of earthquake activity in tunceli province of Turkey: Standard normal deviate Z-test
Öztürk, S.; Sari, M.
A statistical evaluation of earthquake activity for Tunceli province of Turkey was made by applying standard normal deviate Z-test. For this purpose, regional and temporal changes of the seismicity rate at the beginning of 2017 was analyzed by using ZMAP software. The data set is compiled from Bogaziçi University, Kandilli Observatory and Earthquake Research Institute. There are 5462 events from September 21, 1970 to December 30, 2016 with magnitude larger than and equal to 1.1. Completeness magnitude is estimated as 2.8. Three regions indicating important quiescence anomaly were observed at the beginning of 2017.These anomalies are found centered at (a) 39.24°N-39.51°E (around city center, and between Ovacik and Pülümür), (b) 38.98°N-39.41°E (including Pertek) and (c) 38.96°N-39.78°E (region including Mazgirt). These quiescence anomalies are observed in the recent years and they start approximately at the years of 2012 and 2015.The regions in which seismic quiescence are found may be the possible areas for the future earthquakes and for this reason, special attention should be given to these regions. As an important result, the estimation of seismicity rate changes and detecting the precursory seismic quiescence can be used as an important tool in the assessment of earthquake potential.
- BildiriYalnız künye2017Gamma ray spectrometry method in detecting the low sulfidation type epithermal Au+Ag mineralization (Gümüshane, Ne Turkey)
Maden, N.; Akaryali, E.
The gamma ray spectrometry has been widely used in mineral exploration, geological mapping and environmental radiation monitoring. The Eastern Pontide orogenic belt, which constitutes an important part of the Alpine-Himalayan system, hosts various types of economic mineral deposits of massive sulfide, porphyry copper, skarn, and epithermal vein-type ore deposits. Potassium is generally the most useful pathfinder element for gold mineralization zones. High level K/eTh, K/eU and Efimov F-Parameter (KeU/eTh) anomalies showed the alteration zones transmitting hydrothermal ore solutions to the surface. As a result, the gamma ray spectrometry, which is fast and economics method, might be used for estimation of prospective Au ore zones associated with the K alteration.
- BildiriYalnız künye2017Statistical analysis of fundamental seismotectonic parameters for future Earthquake occurrences in tunceli province of Turkey
Öztürk, S.
An evaluation based on Gutenberg-Richter b-value, fractal dimension Dc-value, completeness magnitude Mc-value, annual probability and recurrence time of earthquakes is carried out for Tunceli province of Turkey. Earthquake catalog covers the years between 21 September 1970 and 30 December 2016, and contains 5462 earthquakes with magnitude equal to and greater than 1.1. Magnitude completeness is estimated as 2.8 and b-value is found as b=0.98+/-0.01. This b-value is smaller than average value of b=1.0 given for Gutenberg-Richter relation. So, this low b-value may be an indicator of stress to build up over time at the beginning of 2017. Dc-value is obtained as 1.63+/-0.04 with 95% confidence limits. This high Dc-value indicates that seismicity in Tunceli and vicinity is more clustered at larger scales or in smaller areas. Annual probability of the earthquakes between 4.5 and 5.5 magnitude levels exhibits a value between 1 and 10. Recurrence time of the earthquakes has a value between 10 and 30 years for magnitude levels between 5.5 and 6.0, and a value between 30 and 100 years for magnitude levels between 6.0 and 6.5. Consequently, this part of Turkey may have an earthquake potential for the possibility of intense earthquake occurrences in the next future.
- BildiriYalnız künye2017Determination of the dynamic characteristics of the faculty building of engineering and natural science with hvsr method and fsr method
Beker, Y.; Sayıl, N.
Seismic response characteristics of structures can be estimated by spectral ratios of microtremors measured on structures and their foundation ground surface. The microtremor horizontal-to-vertical-spectral-ratio (HVSR) technique has received great attention from all over the world with its simplicity together with quick information about dynamic characteristics of ground and structures. The HVSR of microtremors gives a good estimation of natural building frequency. In this study, Nakamura (H/V) method and Floor Spectral Ratio Method (FSR) has been applied to microtremor records taken with three component broad band velocity seismometers in seven different locations inside the building (ground floor; east and west side for second, fourth and sixth floor) and one at outside with the aim of determining the dynamic characteristics of Faculty building of Engineering and Natural Science at Gumushane University, in NE Turkey. The average predominant frequency, period and amplification values for the Faculty building are calculated. The ratio of amplitude spectrum of the upper floors to amplitude spectrum of the ground floor for both of horizontal components (East-West, North-South) is determined using FSR Method. The vibration frequency and period is around 4.0 Hz and 0.332 s, respectively. Also, the damping ratio and vulnerability were calculated to the Faculty building.

- BildiriYalnız künye2016An assessment on the recent seismicity in the north anatolian fault zone, Turkey
Özturk, S.; Sari, M.
A statistical assessment of recent seismicity in the North Anatolian Fault Zone, Turkey, is made by using seismotectonic b-value and precursory seismic quiescence Z-value. The catalogue including 28,420 earthquakes between 1970 and 2016 is used. Using the Reasenberg declustering process and the earthquakes with MD≥2.7, 51.4% of the events are removed and so, 13,815 events are used for a quantitative evaluation of seismic quiescence in the NAFZ in the beginning of 2016. Completeness magnitude is estimated as 2.7. Resulting values show that significant anomalies are observed in both band Z-values in some parts of the NAFZ. The larger b-values are calculated in Silivri, Black Sea, Izmit and Düzce whereas the smaller b-values are estimated in the western, the eastern and the middle parts of the NAFZ, covering Gulf of Saros, Gelibolu (Çanakkale), Ismetpasa segment, Bingöl, Erzincan, Amasya and Çankiri. Several quiescence regions in and around Tekirdag, Gulf of Saros, Istanbul, Marmara and Black Sea, Izmit, Düzce fault, Mudurnu, Çankiri, Amasya are observed. Consequently, the same regions including Gulf of Saros, Çankiri and Amasya where the smallest b-values and the largest Z-values are obtained may give important evidences to reveal the future earthquake potential in the North Anatolian Fault Zone.
- BildiriYalnız künye2016Detection of permeability in irrigation dams with the electrical resistivity methods
Sari, M.; Seren, A.
It was aimed to identify the permeability of the dam area by collecting the information of 15 boreholes with 450 m depth in totally previously made along the dam axis line and the electric resistivity measurements along four lines vertical to the same axis line. Kirklartepe Dam, planned to be an irrigation dam for agricultural purposes, in the Central district of Bayburt province located in the northeastern region of Turkey was selected as the study area and it was tried to identify the permeability of the units forming the dam area. 2D and 3D underground views of the measurement lines were determined by implementing the inversion process to the electric resistivity measurements. While examining these sections, it was interpreted that anomaly areas with low resistivity values categorize an alluvial cone with permeable slope wash character, while anomaly fields with high resistivity categorize an impermeable metamorphic unit. Moreover, it was tried to reveal the permeability of the dam area by associating with the information of the present boreholes in the study area and creating section maps of 3D views obtained for each 10 m. Thus, it was observed that current boring information and electric resistivity measurement results supported one another.
- BildiriYalnız künye2016Determination of the ground-building relationships in the KTU campus area with microtremor measurements
Beker, Y.; Sayil, N.; Akin, O.; Coban, K.H.
Microtremor measurement obtained by ground vibrations is one of the useful methods for determination of ground characteristics. Also the method has been using to specify building resonance risk during earthquakes in the last decades. In this study, single station microtremor recordings have been taken on the ground and at the 6 buildings in the KTU campus area. The measurements taken on the ground and in the buildings have been evaluated by Nakamura (H/V ratio) method. The eastern of the campus area presents Class-IV and the middle and western part of the campus present Class-II- Class-III according to Kanai and Tanaka ground classification. The predominant frequencies of the buildings are not in a harmony with the values of the ground. It can be deduce that the resonance risk is low for these buildings during the earthquakes. The H/V ratios of the ground change between 1-3 and lower than the buildings ratios which change between 5.0-8.5.

- BildiriYalnız künye2015Investigating the geophysical characteristics of gypsum through GPR
Sari, M.S.; Bektaş, Ö.B.
Gypsum crops out widely in the areas where the urbanization is intense in Sivas city center. In this study, in an appropriate selected area, geophysical characteristics and structure of gypsum have been investigated by applying geophysical methods of GPR (Ground Penetrating Radar). GPR measurements have been taken as 11 profiles with a Ramac GPR device by using 250 MHz shield-antenna. The distance between each profile has been taken as 2m and the length of each profile has been taken as 50m. All the area has been surveyed and ground radar sections have been obtained by GPR method. Gathering all the data, it has been found out that the areas with strong reflections (for the first 5m. depth) revealed in ground radar sections are not homogeneous massive gypsum bodies as presented in geological studies and contain different size and position fill material (clastic material). In addition, investigating such areas through GPR method has enabled to reveal the geophysical characteristics of the region as gypsum contains fractures-cracks, fillings and dissolution spaces.
- BildiriYalnız künye2015Spatial variations of seismotectonic b and Dc-values in and around the East Anatolian Fault Zone (EAFZ), Turkey
Öztürk, S.; Sari, M.
An evaluation of recent seismicity behaviors in the East Anatolian Fault Zone, eastern part of Turkey, is made by using Gutenberg-Richter b-value and fractal dimension Dc-value. Reasenberg's algorithm is used in order to separate the dependent events from independent ones. The completeness magnitude in study region is calculated as 2.8. b-value is calculated as 1.02+/-0.01 by maximum likelihood estimation and matches the Gutenberg-Richter law with a b-value typically close to 1. Dc-value is found as 2.34+/-0.04 with 95% confidence limit by linear regression and this large value suggest that seismicity is more clustered at larger scales in the East Anatolian Fault Zone. The smallest b-values and the highest Dc-values are found in the same areas covering the East Anatolian Fault Zone, Aşkale Fault, Sancak-Uzunpinar Fault Zone, Pülümür Fault, Göynük Fault Zone and Genç Fault, in and around Karataş-Osmaniye Fault Zone and in the southeast part of the study region. Thus, low b-value in these regions may be an indication of low degree of heterogeneity, high-strain due to the active tectonics and stress to build up over time and to be released by events. Thus, special attention should be given to these regions where low b-value and large Dc-value are observed.
- BildiriYalnız künye2014Determination of ground predominant period and H/V ratio by single station microtremor records in Trabzon (Arsin)
Akin, Ö.; Sayil, N.; Beker, Y.
Microtremor method used for engineering seismology is very important for determining of dynamic ground parameters and its variations. Method based on frequency of horizontal and vertical component microtremor records provides to quick and economical estimation of dynamic ground parameters. The most important advantage of Nakamura method defined as single station method does not require reference point and it can be applied easily in the area with low seismic density and without base rock. In this study, Nakamura (H/V) spectral ratio method has been applied to microtremor records taken with CMG-6TD three component broad band velocity seismometers at 116 points with the aim of determining ground predominant period and magnification parameters in the study area. Maps of predominant period and H/V ratio of the study area are created by derived values.
- BildiriYalnız künye2014Spatial and temporal analysis of current seismic quiescence in the east anatolian fault zone, Eastern Part of Turkey
Öztürk, S.; Sariçiçek, I.
In the scope of this study, an evaluation of recent seismic quiescence in the East Anatolian Fault Zone, eastern part of Turkey, is made by using the standard deviate Z-value. For this purpose, a statistical assessment of the spatial and temporal variations of the seismicity rate changes in the beginning of 2013is performed by using ZMAP software package. Results show that four areas with an apparently seismic quiescence may be important in the East Anatolian Fault Zone in the beginning of 2013. These anomalies are observed centered at 39.48°N-39.712°E (between Ovacik and Pülümür, Tunceli), the second one is found centered at 39.06°N-40.297°E (including Karakoçan, Sancak-Uzunpinar and Göynük fault zones), the third one is found centered at 38.55°N-38.763°E (between Malatya fault and EAFZ, north of Pötürge, Malatya) and the last one is found centered as 39.95°N-35.647°E (between Ceyhan-Yumurtalik-Karatas, Adana). The beginnings of these seismic quiescence anomalies are recently observed and nearly started in the beginning of 2007.For this reason, special attention should be given to these regions where the seismic quiescence is observed.
