Nowadays, innovative methods have been used for observing and structural evaluating of historical structures. In this paper, it is presented the full-scale structural assessments of a minaret after a Finite Element model calibrating according to vibration test results. Also, the structural behaviours under earthquake and wind loads were identified by considering the environmental effects on the selected masonry minaret of İskenderpaşa Mosque. First of all, modal analysis was executed on the three-dimensional Finite Element model created according to field survey in ANSYS Workbench. In-situ vibration tests were implemented at different intervals by using developed vibration measurement system. The experimental modal parameters were attained from collected signals. The experimental results were used as reference values in model calibration of this minaret to reflect the existing structural behaviour. Model calibration process was carried out on the initial model both by changing of material properties of masonry wall and by taking into account the interactions with mosque walls and ground. Full-scale structural evaluation was carried out under earthquake and wind loads on both the initial and the calibrated models in the weak direction of this minaret. The top displacements, drift ratios, principal stress values and their distributions were determined. It was shown that the analyses on the calibrated model produce more realistic structural behaviour.

Historical structures are important pieces that connect past to present. Historical structures damaged for various reasons should be restored, repaired and strengthened. After these processes, the behavior of historical structures affected by environmental and time-dependent effects should be followed. For this purpose, current structural behavior of historical structures should be determined. Methods based on the dynamic characteristics of structure are very effective in the evaluation of structural behavior. In this study, dynamic characteristics of Tabakhane and Haci Kasim Muhittin Mosque Minarets in Trabzon province with different environmental conditions and different time intervals were experimentally obtained and compared. Experimental measurements of these minarets were carried out under environmental vibrations with Civil Engineering Vibration System (CEVS), which was developed by our research team, which can receive wired and wireless data. In Tabakhane Mosque Minaret, two measurements taken at different times before restoration and two measurements taken at different times after restoration were evaluated and compared each other. Measurement results of Haci Kasim Muhittin Cami Minaret before and after restoration and two measurements results taken at different times long after restoration were evaluated. The measurement data were analyzed separately in Civil Engineering Vibration Analysis (CEVA) program developed by our research team and in ARTEMIS program. In addition, dynamic characteristics obtained as a result of signal processing for both minarets were compared with previous studies. The reasons for differences in these values were examined depending on environmental condition and time.

Nowadays, different structural members can be used in structures. The mechanical properties of the materials are variable. For this reason, it is very important to identify the material properties correctly. The main parameter used to define the material properties is the elasticity modulus. In this study, the elasticity modulus of structural members was determined by Model Calibration Method using dynamic characteristics obtained from Ambient Vibration Test data. The application of the proposed method was presented on a steel structure member. First of all, experimental natural frequencies were obtained by conducting Environmental Vibration Test on the selected model. A measurement system consisting of accelerometers for experimental measurements and an electronic circuit used as signal collection unit are designed. The data obtained from this measurement system were transferred to the computer environment and analyzed in the Matlab program. Using the SAP2000 package program, the theoretical natural frequencies were found by Finite Element Method. The difference between the experimental and theoretical results was reduced to the lowest as a result of repeated analysis by modifying the elasticity modulus in the Finite Element model created in SAP2000 program via software generated in Matlab. The calibrated finite element model and the elasticity modulus of the steel structural member are determined by the process.
