Sevim, Nurdan; Hall, Elif Eroglu; Izmir, Onur
Consumers use the country image as not only heuristics to predict the quality of the products but also as a symbol of the self by which they affiliate themselves with certain groups and differentiate from others. This study intents to understand the effects of COI on product and service quality perceptions and a set of behavioral intentions through a holistic perspective in the automobile industry. Moreover, as a complementary element, some insights into the conceptualization and the measurement of the country image are meant to be gained. The findings of this study verify the assertions in the current literature on the two-dimensional country image construct, which consists of cognition and affect. The cognition-oriented country image scales threaten the validity of studies conducted in this area because the results obtained with cognition-oriented scales are inadvertently attributed to the (general) country image construct consisting of both cognitive and affective elements. In line with the service dominant logic, it is identified that a holistic approach is required predicting the effects of the country image on quality perceptions. Even in such a pure product category as automobiles, strong associations were identified between country image and perceived service quality. Therefore, regardless of the content of the market offering, it is important that quality must be evaluated under two separate dimensions as (physical) product quality and service quality. With the help of this twodimensional conceptualization of country image and quality perceptions, country of origin element attached to the market offering can be transformed into actual behaviors.

Sevim, Nurdan; Hall, Elif Eroglu; Izmir, Onur

Kordestani, Arash; Oghazi, Pejvak; Izmir, Onur; Oypan, Oguz; Ozer, Serhat
Various COVID-19 vaccines are available across the world. However, short phases of clinical trials for emergency use and myriad rumors about and misinformation on vaccines spread through different media sources, induce confusion and trigger vaccine hesitancy behavior. Although clinical trials demonstrated promising results in the ability of vaccines to protect, social endeavor is required for vaccines to succeed. Mitigation of the pandemic is only possible through widespread acceptance of the vaccine. Thus, identifying the factors that impact vaccine intake is crucial. This study determined factors that affect intentions toward vaccination using a mixed-method approach, in which qualitative and quantitative analyses were conducted together. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) is used in the quantitative study, and content analysis is employed in the qualitative study. The final sample of this mixed-method study consists of 568 participants for the quantitative study and 237 for the qualitative study. They were selected using an online questionnaire. Findings suggest that social, psychological, attitudinal, perceptual, and informational factors play a crucial role in shaping people's intentions toward vaccines, ultimately influencing their decision to accept or reject vaccination. Results of both the qualitative and quantitative studies, in parallel with each other, indicated similar barriers against and drivers toward vaccine intake behavior, providing strong insights into the reasons behind vaccine acceptance and hesitancy. Based on the insights gained in this study, a set of recommendations were compiled for policymakers.

Sevim, Nurdan; Hall, Elif Eroglu; Izmir, Onur
The effects of country-of-origin image (COI) on product preferences/ evaluation and purchase intention have been long examined under different contexts. However, literature lacks when it comes to identifying antecedents of COI. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to (1) identify a set of antecedents of COI and (2) test the validity of two-dimensional COI construct composed of cognition and affect. In this study four possible socio-psychological antecedents of COI were determined from the literature. Using Structural Equation Modelling (SEM), the research model is tested based on the data collected in Turkey and Germany. In this context, the effects of four socio-psychological constructs on COI were tested and significant effects of psychic distance, cosmopolitanism, xenocentrism and ethnocentrism were identified. Moreover, it was determined that COI has been conceptually misevaluated in the literature to the extent of a theoretical myopia. Although some authors pointed out this theoretical gap and tabulated studies based on how COI was measured to reveal the problem, they did not produce a clear solution. This study collected items from the literature to measure affective and cognitive dimensions of COI and found a good fit to the data. Conation/ behavioral dimension is placed in the model as an outcome of COI, not as a dimension that forms the construct of COI. Furthermore, strong associations between COI and behavioral intentions were identified across four brands and two different samples.

Introduction Consumers daily face lots of purchase decisions when they are buying products and services (Bas et al., 2016). They rely on some certain elements of the products to make the right decision about which product to buy. Some rely on extrinsic cues such as brand, country of origin (COO), store name, and price, while others take into account intrinsic cues of the intended product such as taste, smell, design, and durability (Wall et al., 1991; Chao, 1998). Consumers are inclined to make inferences regarding a given product depending on the information and experience level that they have with it (Johansson et al., 1985; Han, 1989, 1990). There is a well-known positive relationship between price and the quality (Zeithaml, 1988). COO information also provides consumers with some insight about the quality of the product (Li and Wyer, 1994) as such consumers attribute some certain features to certain countries (Ahmed and d’Astous, 1993; Verlegh and Steenkamp, 1999). Consumers develop stereotypes concerning “made in” labels of the products (Han, 1990; Ahmed et al., 2004). For instance, Germany is famous for its high-quality and high-durability automobiles; Japan is a well-known country in terms of its high-technology products especially in electronics; Italy and France are good at design and fashion and so on. There is also a negative association between some countries and consumer’s perception. For example, Chinese products are perceived negatively in terms of quality (Verlegh and Steenkamp, 1999; Kinra, 2006; Kerboucheet al., 2012). As a consequence,….
