Ian McEwan İngiliz çağdaş yazınında birçok farklı konuda kaleme aldığı romanlarıyla öne çıkan bir yazardır. Eserlerinde toplumsal sorunlara, kadın erkek ilişkilerine, psikolojik olgulara, çevresel meselelere sıklıkla temas eden yazar, İngiliz Milletler Topluluğu ülkeleri için en prestijli ödüllerden olan Man Booker sahibidir. Yazarın eserleri birçok dile çevrilmiştir. Ayrıca feminizm ve kadın hareketleri ile ilgili karşıt görüşler ortaya koyan eserde sert bir ataerkillik vurgulanmaktadır. Yazar birçok eserinde benzer konuları kurgulayarak kadın ve erkeğin çağdaş toplumdaki pozisyonlarını irdeler ve sorgular. Yazarın böylelikle geçmişin toplumsal konularını ve sorunlarını bugünün bağlamında okurlarıyla buluşturduğu ve söz konusu olguları şiddet sarmalı içerisine soktuğu görülmektedir. Bu çalışmaya konu olan yazarın Yabancı Kucak isimli romanı genel olarak adı belli olmayan bir şehirde iki İngiliz turistin başından geçen ilginç olayları resmetmektedir. Colin ve Mary adındaki çift yemek yiyecek bir yer ararken karşılaştıkları bir adamla tanışmalarından sonra bir dizi esrarengiz ve olumsuz olay yaşar. Yabancı Kucak genel olarak toplumsal sorunlar, ataerkillik, kadın erkek ilişkileri, psikolojik sapkınlıklar ve şiddet temsilleri gibi temaları barındıran bir romandır. Bu bağlamda, McEvan’ın söz konusu eseri birçok farklı temayı içermesinin yanı sıra, bunların birbirleriyle olan iç içe geçmiş ilişkilerini de ortaya koymaktadır. Bu çalışmada yazarın Yabancı Kucak isimli romanı toplumsal cinsiyetçi roller ve ataerkilliğin temsili bakımından incelenecektir.

This study aims to determine the borders of the east and west through arguments in Mim Kara’s Doğuya Hüzün Turları (Sorrow Tours to the East), a volume woven with prose poems. It will scrutinise the poet’s thoughts regarding the identity of the easterner and westerner through the said borders. When contemporary Turkish poetry and orientalist studies are taken into consideration, it is seen that the thoughts in Mim Kara’s Doğuya Hüzün Turları do not draw a distinction on places contrary to the general east-west tendency which is created with imperialist purposes. Mim Kara states that the places that are located east and west are not just determined by their coordinates. In the book, the general tendency is to escape, and this escape is from rationality and quantifiable knowledge towards innocence. When this escape is considered as a journey, not the coordinates but sorrow is the loadstar. In line with this, Kara’s multidimentional, innovative and profound narratives that are put forth in his book motivate us to write. Moreover, the east-west distinction that is presented differently from the premises in his book, is the focal point of the study. In this article, first the general orientalist arguments are studied, then, the profound investigation in terms of the perception of east-west, pure and rational reason is determined as a method of this study. This study aims to focus on Mark Ravenhill’s some significant plays in which the concept of American dream and contemporary consumerist culture are seen. Ravenhill puts forward the perception of American dream and consumerism by emphasizing the dissatisfaction of contemporary postmodern milieu. In his plays, Ravenhill refers to the concept of American dream that enables to establish a bound between much more consumerism and opportunities that it served. Bu çalışma Sarah Kane'in 1990'ların başında Royal Court sahnesinde görünmesinden sonra ortaya çıkan çağdaş tiyatro algısına yön veren birçok iniş çıkışlara sahne oları Britanya tiyatrosunun son yıllardaki en önemli sıçramalarından biri olan suratına tiyatro ve onun en önemli temsilcilerinden biri oları Mark Ravenhill'i tüm açıklığıyla incelemeyi amaçlamaktadır. Bu çalışma Britanya tiyatrosunda yerıi bir tiyatro algısını ortaya çıkaran Look Back in Anger oyunundan beri meydana gelen tarihsel gelişmelerle ilgili bilgiler verildikten sonra, oyunlarında yamyamlık, depresyon, yabancılaşma, tüketim toplumu, cinsellik gıbi öğeleri barındıran kötü doksarılar diye de anılan suratına tiyatronun öne çıkarı oyun yararlarından Mark Ravenhill' 1n dönem üzerine katkısına odaklanmıştı

Within the scope of postmodernist tenets this study aims to scrutinize Mark Ravenhill’s Some Explicit Polaroids which is considered as one of the most significant plays of In-yer-face theatre that began to gain influence in Britain at the beginning of the Nineties. Some Explicit Polaroids is a political criticism on the confrontation of the two generations and reflects postmodernist tenets, which inhold nihilistic values. In this study, it is aimed to bring forward that Some Explicit Polaroids reproduces the current social milieu in a postmodernist view. In addition to this, the evaluations written on postmodern drama and the criticism on postmodernism are dealt with according to their resonances in the play. The conclusion reveals the evaluations of this study.
