The effect of SARS-CoV-2 pandemic on anxiety levels and attitudes towards e-learning among sports sciences students

    Türker, Ustun; Bostanci, Ozgur

Background and Study Aim The COVID-19 pandemic has led to significant changes in education and teaching processes, particularly affecting application-based disciplines such as sports science. This study aimed to examine the relationship between COVID-19-related anxiety and attitudes toward e-learning among sports sciences students. Material and Methods The study was conducted using a cross-sectional design with 2,479 students from 14 state universities in Turkey. Data were collected using the Coronavirus Anxiety Scale (CAS) and the Test of E-Learning Related Attitudes Scale (TELRA), and responses were gathered through online surveys. Parametric statistical analyses (t-test, correlation) were performed using SPSS at a significance level of p<0.05. Results Anxiety associated with the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic led to significant changes in the e-learning attitudes of sports sciences students. Students with higher levels of anxiety exhibited stronger tendencies toward technology use and perceived usefulness, whereas only limited differences were noted in satisfaction and motivation. Female students reported higher levels of symptoms and anxiety, while those who engaged in regular exercise demonstrated lower anxiety levels. Interestingly, within the high-anxiety group, students who did not regularly participate in exercise displayed more favorable e-learning attitudes. These findings suggest that anxiety may strengthen the inclination toward digital learning; however, this tendency does not always align with motivational commitment. Conclusions The e-learning attitudes of sports sciences students during the pandemic were influenced by factors such as technological competence, psychological state, gender, exercise habits, and the requirements of practical courses. The findings highlight the importance of designing hybrid and flexible learning models in times of crisis, in a manner that integrates psychological support with pedagogical needs.

LEARNING STYLES OF TALENTED PRE- SERVICE TEACHERS

    Türker, Ustun; Bostanci, Ozgur

The learning styles of students vary both among individuals and across different disciplines they choose to study. In higher education, academic discipline appears to be a key factor influencing students'distinctive learning styles. This study, which aims to determine the dominant learning styles and models of talented pre-service teachers, was designed with the survey model. The study group research consisted of 1019 volunteer pre-service teachers who continued their education in Physical Education and Sports, Music, and Arts & Craft Teaching departments. In the study, the VARK Learning Style Inventory was used as a data collection tool; students were asked to answer questions in a digital environment through Google Forms. According to the research results, kinesthetic style is the dominant learning preference for pre -service teachers in the visual arts and sports sciences, and both kinesthetic and aural styles are the dominant learning preferences for pre-service teachers in music education. Although talented pre-service teachers tend to learn predominantly kinesthetic and aural styles when evaluated, 61.2% of pre-service teachers prefer to learn with a Multiple Learning Model, which covers the entire instructional diversity, rather than sticking to just one learning style.

Anthropometric data, which is highly correlated with health and high level of physical capacity, is very important for police officer. The aim of this study was to examine the anthropometric data of police college students and compare in terms of gender. Fifty-two police college students (32 females and 20 males) participated in the present study. Index calculations were made by applying anthropometric test measurements to all participants. The data included anthropometric (length measurements, width measurements, circumference measurement) and index [Body Mass Index (BMI), Cormic Index (C-Index), Body Adiposity Index (BAI), Ponderal Index (PI), Conicity Index (Con-Index) Waist-to-Height Ratio (WHtR)] parameters. The Independent Sample T-Test was used to analyze the difference in groups. A statistically significant difference was found in all parameters except leg length in length measurements (p<0.05). The mean of all width measurements except shoulder width of females was higher than that of male participants. Differences were obtained in all variables except hand and hip-width (p<0.05). In circumference measurements, there was a difference between the groups in the measurement values of the relaxed arm, maximum arm, wrist, shoulder, chest, and hip circumferences (p<0.05). The BAI, PI, WHtR, and Con-Index values were significantly different between groups (p<0.05). In conclusion, the length, width, circumference, and kinanthropometric indexes of male and female police candidates differ. Although male have higher mean values in length and circumference measurements, female have a higher mean for width measurements. Females have higher mean values in general in terms of index values and they are inincreased risk group in terms of WHtR index. It can be recommended for all participants, especially females, to participate in regular physical activity after they start working.

Correlation of bilateral and ipsilateral strength ratios with balance in female taekwondo athletes

Yilmaz, Ali Kerim; Yilmaz, Coskun; Karaduman, Emre; Mayda, Muhammet Hakan; Erail, Serhat; Bostanci, Ozgur; Kabadayi, Menderes

This study aimed to analyze preferred leg (PLs) and non-preferred leg (NPLs) isokinetic knee strength, lateral asymmetry ratios and to examine their correlation with static balance. Sixteen female taekwondo (TKD) athletes voluntarily participated in the study. Knee isokinetic extension (Ex) and flexion (Flx) strength were measured in concentric / concentric (Con / Con) contractions at angular velocities of 60 degrees/s, 180 degrees/s, and 240 degrees/s. Ipsilateral hamstring / quadriceps (H/Q) and bilateral (H/H and Q/Q) ratios were calculated. Static balances were determined by taking the center of body pressure in X (COPX) and Y (COPY) axis. Paired sample t-test and Pearson correlation tests were used in statistical analysis. When the isokinetic knee strength was examined, it was found that 60 degrees/s angular velocity parameter was significantly different in Flx phase while 180 degrees/s and 240 degrees/s angular velocities were found to be significantly different in Ex phase in favor of PLs. There was no significance in bilateral and ipsilateral strength ratios of all angular velocities. There was a significant correlation between 240 degrees/s HQ and COPX in terms of ipsilateral asymmetry ratios whereas a significant correlation was found between 60 degrees/s HH and COPX in terms of bilateral asymmetry ratios. It was found that there were differences in strength between PL and NPLs, but no asymmetry was observed. There was no high level of correlation between lateral asymmetry ratios and balance in female TKD practitioners.
