It is possible to say that weak ḥadīth is one of the most complicated terminology in terms of its nature and parts among the subjects of ḥadīth methodology. According to our research, there are some logical problems in the definitions made both in the classical and in the recent period in order to reveal its essence. When the definitions in question are considered, especially in the context of their relationship with the mawḍūʿ ḥadīth, it is understood that while their all elements are included, they do not exclude their othernesses. Therefore, the definitions made for weak ḥadīth in the research were determined chronologically and examined especially in terms of their relationship with mawḍūʿ ḥadīth. For this purpose, first, the works on the ḥadīth methodology of the classical period were consulted and the problems in question were revealed with analytical and critical methods. Then, the studies on the ḥadīth methodologyof the modern period were evaluated in the same way. Based on the fact that the literature is very extensive, Ibn Ṣalāḥ’s definition was taken as the basis and special emphasis was placed on the definitions made differently from him. Thus, the research aimed to identify and eliminate the problems mentioned. Finally, if definitions that eliminate the mentioned problems have been identified, they have been highlighted. More importantly, Ibn Ṣalāḥ’s weak ḥadīth definition and division have been revised to solve the mentioned problems.
