Linking Performance Expectations to Work Engagement: Roles of Self-Efficacy and Job Insecurity

    Demirbağ, Orkun; Tiryaki, Selma

This study examines how managers' high performance expectations influence employees' work engagement through their self-efficacy perceptions, and explores the moderating role of job insecurity in this relationship. Within the scope of the study, data were collected between January and March 2024 from two distinct occupational groups private-sector teachers and sales representatives in Trabzon, through an online questionnaire administered using convenience sampling. A total sample of 670 participants was analyzed. Based on the collected data, Hayes Process Model 4 was used to analyze the mediating role of self-efficacy, while Hayes Process Model 7 was employed to examine the moderating role of job insecurity. The results indicated that managers' high performance expectations are positively associated with employees' work engagement, with self-efficacy serving as a mediating variable and job insecurity acting as a moderator in this relationship. The mediating effect of self-efficacy on job engagement was 14.7% for teachers and 47.6% for sales representatives, indicating a meaningful difference across occupational groups.

Empowering Education: Addressing Vaccination Hesitancy in The Covid-19 Era

    Tümay, Muhammed

The COVID-19 pandemic started in 2019 with the emergence of a new coronavirus and has greatly affected societies worldwide. It has led to an increase in mortality rates, disturbed pre-existing health conditions, disrupted educational systems, and reduced global workforce productivity and production. The scientific community has expedited vaccine development to combat the pandemic. However, the emergence of various vaccines has paradoxically resulted in a decline in public confidence, contributing to anti-vaccine sentiments. This study explores the pivotal role of education in fortifying vaccination rates and seeks to identify effective strategies to address hesitancy and strengthen public health measures. This research uses the two-stage least squares (2SLS) methodology to analyze the “Learning Loss Covid-19” cross-sectional dataset, which the World Bank published on January 4, 2023. The investigation focuses on the relationship between “Vaccination rate (per person)” and “Year of Education” across 41 countries. The empirical findings show that education has a significant impact on vaccination rates. An increase of one year in educational attainment leads to an approximate 14% increase in doses administered per person and a substantial 23% surge in the average dosage across nations. Therefore, education plays a crucial role in fortifying and elevating vaccination rates, demonstrating its significance as a potent tool in global public health endeavours.

Effects of Social Media Addiction and Psychological Resilience On Online Purchasing Decisions

    Eda, Dişli Bayraktar

In this research, it was aimed to assess the influence of social media addiction and psychological resilience on online purchasing decisions from a marketing standpoint. A survey was administered to 384 university students, comprising a demographic questionnaire, the Online Decision-Making Scale (ODMS), the Social Media Addiction Scale (SMAS), and the Psychological Resilience Scale (PRS). Psychological resilience (PRS) exhibited a significant negative correlation with sensitivity to brand dimension of ODMS. SMAS total scores were positively correlated with sensitivity to quality, sensitivity to brand, sensitivity to innovation, sensitivity to mobility and sensitivity to web interface. The effect of social media addiction on online purchase decisions was statistically significant and positive, while the effect of psychological resilience was statistically insignificant. The findings indicate that university students' addiction to social media positively influences their online shopping behavior. As levels of social media addiction increase, students tend to engage in more online purchases.
