  A Comparative Genre Analysis of Turkish Consumer Reviews in Digital Contexts

  This study presents a genre-based comparative analysis of 100 Turkish product reviews collected from Trendyol and 100 book reviews from Kitapyurdu, aiming to uncover the structural, linguistic, and pragmatic features shaping user-generated digital discourse. Drawing on frameworks of move structure analysis and linguistic evaluation, the research investigates how differing communicative purposes, expectations, and platform affordances influence the way users articulate evaluations, express emotions, and offer recommendations. The findings demonstrate that product reviews generally adhere to a concise and function-oriented structure, often comprising an initial evaluation, followed by a reasoning phase that justifies the user’s stance based on personal experience, and concluding with explicit recommendations or appreciation directed toward sellers or future buyers. These reviews are typically characterized by informal and conversational language, spelling and punctuation irregularities, extensive use of intensifiers, as well as extralinguistic aspects such as emojis that visually reinforce affective meanings. Notably, product reviews frequently mention ideas about packaging quality, delivery speed, or the suitability of the product for a specific family member, enhancing their persuasive impact. In contrast, book reviews display an elaborate rhetorical organization. They often begin with detailed descriptions or definitions of the work, reference the author’s broader literary contributions, and provide interpretative evaluations enriched by thematic summaries or selective quotations. The syntactic complexity, careful punctuation, and lexically diverse style of these reviews signal a deeper cognitive and affective engagement with the content. By illustrating how genre conventions and platform contexts jointly shape linguistic and discursive choices, this study underscores the value of genre awareness in fostering critical digital literacy. It also points to pedagogical applications in language teaching and suggests avenues for future research on digital genres across diverse sociocultural settings, media platforms, and interactional modalities.

  “Chasing a Ghost” in Young Adult Literature: Mental Illness in Am I Normal Yet?

  The relative lack of attention given to mental health issues compared to physical health problems in society poses a significant barrier to the development of adequate literacy surrounding mental health concerns. Furthermore, the pervasive stigmatization of individuals suffering from these disorders exacerbates the burden they face. In light of the increasing prevalence of mental illnesses and the imperative for timely interventions, the potential of Young Adult Literature depicting mental illnesses to enhance literacy in this realm appears promising. Consequently, it is aimed to examine the representation of obsessive-compulsive disorder in Am I Normal Yet? by the British author Holly Bourne. Initially, the disorders are contextualized within a broader framework, followed by an exploration of their representation within the novel. Subsequently, a thorough analysis is carried out on these representations, with a specific emphasis on how symptoms and treatment alternatives are presented in the narrative. Furthermore, due to the impact of environmental factors on mental health problems, the reactions elicited by these disorders within the storyline are investigated and discussed.

  Coordinates of the East and West in Mim Kara’s Doğuya Hüzün Turları (Sorrow Tours to the East)

  This study aims to determine the borders of the east and west through arguments in Mim Kara’s Doğuya Hüzün Turları (Sorrow Tours to the East), a volume woven with prose poems. It will scrutinise the poet’s thoughts regarding the identity of the easterner and westerner through the said borders. When contemporary Turkish poetry and orientalist studies are taken into consideration, it is seen that the thoughts in Mim Kara’s Doğuya Hüzün Turları do not draw a distinction on places contrary to the general east-west tendency which is created with imperialist purposes. Mim Kara states that the places that are located east and west are not just determined by their coordinates. In the book, the general tendency is to escape, and this escape is from rationality and quantifiable knowledge towards innocence. When this escape is considered as a journey, not the coordinates but sorrow is the loadstar. In line with this, Kara’s multidimentional, innovative and profound narratives that are put forth in his book motivate us to write. Moreover, the east-west distinction that is presented differently from the premises in his book, is the focal point of the study. In this article, first the general orientalist arguments are studied, then, the profound investigation in terms of the perception of east-west, pure and rational reason is determined as a method of this study.   Nazım Hikmet Ran'ın Farsçaya Çevrilen Eserleri

  Cumhuriyet Dönemi Türk şiirinin önde gelen isimlerinden Nazım Hikmet, 1940lı yıllardan sonra dünyadaki siyasi gelişmelere paralel olarak İranda da dikkat çeken Türk şair ve yazarlardan biridir. İran Komünist Partisinin kurulduğu dönem sonrasında, Şah Muhammed Rıza Pehlevinin küçük ve orta sınıf esnafı sistem dışı bırakma girişimleri, karşıt görüşleri harekete geçirmiştir. İrandaki bu toplumsal ve siyasi gelişim Türkiyede Komünist söylemin tek savunucusu olan Nazım Hikmete olan ilgiyi anlaşılır kılmaktadır. Zira şairin eserlerinin 1967 yılından itibaren mensur eserleriyle başlayan çeviri faaliyetleri şiirleriyle devam etmiştir. Günümüzde de eserleriyle ilgili çalışmalar yapılan Nazım Hikmet hâlâ İranda kabul gören bir şahsiyettir. Nazım Hikmetin İranda ne zamandan beri ilgi uyandırdığı, eserlerine olan ilginin düzeyinin bilinmesi, bu alanda çalışan araştırmacılara kaynaklık edecektir. Siyasi, içtimai ve edebî alanda aynı gelişmelerin büyük ölçüde paralel yaşandığı İran ve Türkiye, tarihî platformda incelenmeye değer iki ülkedir. Bu bağlamda, İranda dikkat çeken Nazım Hikmetle ilgili çalışmalar önemlidir. Zira şairin 1967 yılında Samin Bağçeban tarafından Farsçaya çevrilen Ferhat ve Şirin adlı tiyatro eserinin ilgi görmesi onun manzum ve mensur eserlerinin çevirisine ortam hazırlamıştır. Ona olan ilgi bazen de şiirlerinin farklı mütercimler tarafından birkaç kez çevrilmesine sebep olmuştur. İranda akademik araştırmalara konu olan Nazım Hikmet, İran modern şairlerinin dikkatini de çekmiştir. İran modern şairi Ahmed-i Şamlu yabancı şairlerin şiirlerinden yaptığı çevirileri içeren Büyük Dünya Şairlerinden Seçmeler adlı şiir kitabında Nazım Hikmetin şiirlerine de yer vermiştir.
