The Effects of Boron (Orthoboric Acid) Supplementation Into Diets of Hens During Late Laying Period on Performance and Some Serum Parameters

    Kaya, Hacer; Macit, Muhlis

This study was carried out to determine the effects of boron (orthoboric acid) addition to the diets of hens in the late laying period on performance and some serum parameters. Two hundred eighty-eight Lohman commercial laying hens which are 62 weeks old were fed with 0, 50, 75, and 150 mg/kg of B for 12 weeks. The research was carried out in 18 replicates, and four laying hens were used for each replicate. During the research, 16-hour lighting was applied and feed and water were given as ad-libitum. Supplementation of different level of B did not alter the live weight change and average egg weight from performance characteristics, but egg production increased and also feed efficiency and daily feed intake reduced (P<0.01). Serum glucose, cholesterol, triglycerides, creatinine, total and direct bilirubin values were not affected by additional B. While addition of B into the diets of laying hens did not affect the outcomes of serum alkaline phosphatase (ALP), aspartate amino transaminase (AST) and gamma glutamyl transaminase (GGT) enzyme activities (P>0.05), but alanin amino transaminase (ALT) was affected by Boron (P<0.05). It is concluded that in order to have a positive effect on performance of laying hens in the late laying period, 50 mg/kg B supplementation is adequate and may be suggested.

    Organic Cereal Farming

    Sirat, Abdulveli

Organic farming preserves the balance in nature, providing continuity in soil fertility, taking control of pests and diseases, it ensures the continuity of the creatures in nature, in accordance with the ecology of plant and animal production in order to produce healthy foods, cultural measures, proposing performed with biological control and natural fertilization, not only product quantity increase, but also it represents an alternative production system aiming at increasing product quality. The aim of organic cereal farming is to eliminate the environmental problems by the insensible tillage practices for many years, excessive use of synthetic chemical fertilizers and pesticides and to protect uncontaminated areas. For this purpose, natural resources and energy are used optimum and it is utilised from the many possibilities of modern farming. In this article, in Turkey, it was mentioned last cases on organic cereal farming and growth techniques with the plant protection precautions.

Evaluation of grain yield, mainly agricultural traits and yield stability of some two- rowed barley (Hordeum vulgare conv. distichon) genotypes in Samsun conditions

Sirat, Abdulveli; Mut, Zeki; Sezer, İsmail

This experiment was conducted to evaluate grain yield, main agricultural traits and yield stability of some 19 two-rowed barley genotypes in Samsun conditions. This experiment was carried out three years from 2002 to 2005 with competely randomized block design. In the study, plant height, spike lenght, grain number per head, 1000 grain weight, test weight and grain yield were determined. Mean yield of genotypes ( x ), regression coefficient (bi), determination coefficient (R2), deviation from regression (S2d), and ecovalance (Wi2) were evaluated as stability parameters. According to means of three years, these values were determined; plant height was 82.0-96.8 cm, spike lenght was 6.24-8.78 cm, grain number per head was 20.3-27.9 numbers, thousand kernel weight was 42.4-48.9 g, test weight was 59.9.0-70.1 kg and grain yield was 314.9-474.7 kg/da. According to means of years, the highest grain yields were obtained from the genotypes 1, 3, 6, 9, 11, 12 and 19. The genotypes 3, 9, 12 and 19 had the highest stability according to all stability parameters in this experiment.

Türkiye’de Organik kaba yem üretiminin mevcut durumu

Okcu, Melih; Yolcu, Halil; Tan, Mustafa

Determination of yield, yield component and some quality traits in some two-rowed and six-rowed barley (hordeum vulgare l.) Genotypes in samsun ecological condition

    Sirat, Abdulveli; Sezer, İsmail

This research was conducted to determine 12 barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) genotypes on yield, yield component and some quality traits, between 2008-2010 in Black Sea Agricultural Research Institute s experimental areas. As the barley material, six-rowed Erginel 90, Epona, Akhisar-98, Vamıkhoca-98 and two-rowed Bolayır, Larende, Zeynelağa, Aydanhanım and Afg-A1, Afg-A2, Afg-A3 and Afg-A4 varietys were used. There were significant differences found in tested characters among barley cultivars. According to two-year average traits were ranged as follow; plant height was as 68.0 as 115.8 cm; spike lenght as 5.3-8.4 cm; grain number per spike as 24.9-59.3; the weight of grains per spike as 0.64-1.97 g; spike number per m2 as 210.59-516.73; grain yield as 188.84-620.28 kg/da; the quality characteristics 1000-grain weight as 30.5-47.5 g; hectoliter weight as 58.8-71.4 kg and crude protein content as 10.9-12.7 %. According to the two years periodical research results; the highest results of grain yield and 1000-grain weight were obtained form Epona (620.28 kg/da) and Bolayır (515.16 kg/da) varieties, and Akhisar 98 (47.5 g), Larende (46.3 g) and Vamıkhoca 98 (44.8 g) varieties, respectively. In addition, the highest results for hectoliter weight were found Bolayır (71.4 kg), Zeynelağa and Aydanhanım (69.1 kg) varieties respectively. Moreover, Vamıkhoca 98 and Akhisar 98 showed the highest crude protein content (12.7, 12.5 %).
