Urban memory, defined as the accumulation of human experiences within human settlements, is largely shaped around examples of spatial and architectural art. As different cultural environments participate in the formation of urban memory, the accumulation of the settlement also becomes richer. This richness, which carries the traces of civilisations through the ages to the present day, can also be observed in the & Ccedil;& ouml;mlek & ccedil;i Neighbourhood, which forms one of the eastern suburbs of Trabzon and takes its name from the pottery production industry. The neighbourhood is home to cultural layers from the Hellenistic Period Mithra Cult, the Roman and Byzantine Empires, the Komnenos Kingdom, the Ottoman and Republican periods, as well as Catholic Italians, Orthodox Greeks, Mitharist Armenians and Muslim Turks. The neighbourhood's significance extends beyond its multiple cultural layers; as an area of artistic and artisanal production, it makes a significant contribution to the city's budget and vitality. Raising awareness of the neighbourhood is crucial for the integration of fragments of the city's memory. This study compiles new findings added to the existing knowledge about & Ccedil;& ouml;mlek & ccedil;i Mahallesi. The neighbourhood, which bears witness to rich experiences alongside its architectural structure, has been examined in terms of urban memory, centred on the discipline of art history alongside its multiple cultural layers, and studied within a hermeneutic framework that incorporates meaning and interpretation through the criteria of definition, witnessing, surface research, and evaluation.

An Analysis of the Pictures in Physics Textbooks in Terms of Gender Roles

    Takaoglu, Zeynep Baskan

Education is one of the fundamental needs of individuals. However, sometimes undesirable attitudes such as gender discrimination can be taught through textbooks or other resources in educational activities. This study aimed to explore the images in textbooks in terms of gender roles. Physics textbooks were analyzed considering the use of images of men and women, the professions they belong to, and the people, places, and actions in which they are shown together. Physics textbooks used in the 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th grades in Gumushane in the 2018-2019 academic year were examined. In this research, conducted in a qualitative research design, the document analysis technique was used for the data collection. The data were analyzed with the content analysis technique. The results showed that the images in physics textbooks include more male images, and the male gender is more often represented in professional professions and artists, and men are often depicted alone or as public actors, with professional staff, and outdoors. Female figures, on the other hand, are shown less in the textbooks, and they have taken on the duties assigned to women by the society, which are mostly inside the house. Based on this, the results reveal that Physics textbooks show a favorable position for men and that and the representation of gender roles is applied unequally. Moreover, it is also observed that traditional gender roles are displayed in textbooks through hidden curricula.

Suffixes -(I)p /-(U)p and Their Functions in Turkmen Turkish

    Gökçür, Uyesi Engin

Suffixes -(I)p and -(U)p have been used as verbal adverb suffixes during the historical development of Turkish language. When these suffixes are added, verbs modify the central meaning in terms of 'situation, time and style.' Therefore, they are used instead of the verbal adverb suffix (- arak), not used in Turkmen Turkish, that is used to refer to situation and style. These suffixes mostly form verbal adverbs stating situation and style with their function mentioned above in Turkmen Turkish. Besides, when they are added to verbs, they form descriptive verbs by attaching verbs to auxiliary verbs. In this case, it has been seen that they take role in the formation of descriptive verbs that refer to sufficiency, quickness, duration, process, ending and starting. As these suffixes have the function of attaching completed conclusions to another conclusion, they have lost their verbal adverb function in time in Azerbaijani Turkish as in Turkmen Turkish and have been used as past perfect tense. These suffixes are used especially in second-person singular and plural in past perfect form in Turkmen Turkish. They are used in the form of past perfect tense when followed by the (- dir) affix.
