- MakaleAçık Erişim2025The Effect of Hemodialysis Patients' Attitudes Towards Dietary Treatment on Dialysis Symptoms: A Randomized Controlled Clinical Study
Aktepe Cosar, Dilan; Demírag, Hatice
Objective: This study was conducted to determine the effect of hemodialysis patients' attitudes towards diet therapy on dialysis symptoms. Methods: The data of the randomized controlled study were collected from experimental (n=30) and control groups (n=30) at G & uuml;m & uuml;& scedil;hane Province Kelkit State Hospital between 1 November 2023 and 1 January 2024. Institutional and ethics committee permissions were obtained before the study. The experimental group patients were given training on diet therapy. Patient information form, hemodialysis patients' attitude scale towards diet therapy (HDTO) and dialysis symptom index (DSI) were used to collect data. Data collection tools were applied before the study (pre-test), after the training was given (intermediate measurement) and one month later (post-test). The data were analyzed using the chisquare, repeated measures ANOVA test and independent groups t-test in the SPSS 25.0 package program. Results: It was determined that the post-training measurements (intermediate measurement) of the total HDTO and sub-dimensions score averages of the hemodialysis patients in the experimental group were higher than the pre-training (pre-test) measurements; and the measurements made 1 month after the training (post-test) were lower than the measurements made immediately after the training (intermediate measurement) (p<0.05). Again, the post-training measurements (intermediate measurement) of the DSI score averages of the experimental group of patients were lower than the pre-training (pre-test) measurements (p<0.05); it was determined that the measurements made 1 month after the training were given (post-test) did not differ from the measurements made immediately after the training (intermediate measurement) (p>0.05). Conclusion: In line with the findings, it was determined that the diet therapy training provided increased hemodialysis patients' attitudes towards diet therapy and reduced dialysis symptoms.

Hintistan, Sevilay; Kazak, Aysun
The emergence of the new pathogenic viral strains is a constant threat to global health. The latest new coronavirus strain coronavirus-2019 (COVID-19) is the best-known example of this. COVID-19, caused by the severe acute respiratory syndrome-CoV-2 virus has quickly spread around the globe. The applications of drug and vaccine practices, and the identification of potential candidates are of high importance against this pandemic. On healthy adults, a proper evaluation of potential vaccines in parallel with vaccination studies on animal models and an enlargement of production capacity will benefit minimum risk and accelerated COVID-19 vaccine studies for human subjects. The purpose of this review is to contribute to the analysis of vaccine development strategies, vaccine development stages, phase studies and the difficulties, production stages and current status of potential vaccine studies developed to prevent COVID-19.

Objective: This study was carried out to determine the nurses' knowledge of the hemovigilance system and their use of it, within the scope of blood transfusion safety. Methods: The sample of this descriptive and cross-sectional study consisted of all nurses (n=65) working at Gumushane State Hospital. The data were collected with Structured Question Form Number, percentage, mean, Continuity Correction, Pearson Chi-Square and Fisher Exact tests were used to evaluate the data. Results: Of the nurses, 90.8% were women, the average age was 27.01 +/- 5.16 (20-48) years and 86.1% had undergraduate or higher education. Of the nurses, 84.6% knew that they were supervised by a hemovigilance nurse. Nurses (43.1%) who received training on the hemovigilance system had higher levels of knowing that each unit of blood taken from the donor follows the final destination (100.0%) than the nurses who did not receive training (p <0.05). The nurses who knew that they were supervised during transfusion related processes performed the following steps at a higher rate than those who did not know that they were inspected (p <0.05): Wearing gloves before the application (100.0%), using appropriate branches in children (87.3%), obtaining written consent before blood transfusion (100.0%), and completing the blood transfusion within a maximum of four hours (87.3%) were higher than nurses who did not know that they were supervised (p <0.05). Also; the majority of nurses (90.8%) were determined to use the current procedures for blood transfusions. Conclusion: In line with the findings of the study, it was stated that the nurses who were educated about the hemovigilance system and who knew that they were supervised by the hemovigilance nurse, had high hemovigilance system usage.

Objective: In this study we investigated in vitro antifungal activity of fluconazole, green tea (Camellia sinensis) and quince leaf (Cydonia oblonga) extracts in Candida strains isolated from blood cultures. Methods: Fifty Candida spp were included to study. Camellia sinensis and Cydonia oblonga leaves collected from Rize and Erzurum/Tortum regions were prepared as an extract. Then stock solutions of the extracts and fluconazole powder obtained from the manufacturer were prepared for use in the Broth Microdilution (BMD) method according to Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI) M27 A3 recommendation. Fluconazole minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) values obtained from BMD method were evaluated according to CLSI M27 A4 break points. MIC values obtained for Camellia sinensis and Cydonia oblonga were interpreted according to fluconazole break points since there is no break points in the literature. Results: Of the 50 Candida spp. included in the study, 37 (74%) were C. albicans while 13 (26%) were non-albicans species. The most common isolated non-albicans species was C. parapsilosis (14%). For all tested Candida strains MIC 50 and MIC 90 values for fluconazole were found to be 0.125 mu g/mL- 0.25 mu g/mL while they were determined as 0.125 mu g/mL-64 mu g/mL and 0.125 mu g/mL-0.125 mu g/mL for green tea and quince leaves, respectively. Conclusion: According to the low MIC values, it is seen that green tea and quince leaf are in vitro effective against Candida species. However, further extensive in vitro and in vivo studies should be done on the possibility that green tea and quince leaf can be used alternatively in the treatment of invasive Candida infections.
