Eker, Çiğdem Saydam; Akpınar, İbrahim; Sipahi, Ferkan; Yapıcı, Ejder
ABSTRACT: The element contents and organic matter-element relation between Lias-aged coals exposed in four fields in Gümüşhane and Bayburt were investigated. In general, fixed carbon and gross calorific values of the Edire and Balkaynak coals are higher than Güvercinlik and Çerçi coals. The highest ash yields were observed in the Çerçi coals. The concentrations of Mg, P, Ca, Mo, Y, Ni, U, Zn, Ga, Ba, W, Sr, Ta, and Be of the analysed coals are positively correlated with ash yield, indicating an organic affinity. The Lias-aged coals located in Gümüşhane and Bayburt are low-rank coals.

- MakaleYalnız künye2015Scopus SJRQ2Organic maturity and hydrocarbon potential of liassic coals from the eastern Pontides, NE Turkey
Eker, C.S.; Sipahi, F.; Akpnar, I.
Organic matter content, type of organic material, and thermal maturity of Lias-aged coals of the Gumushane and Bayburt areas were investigated. The total organic carbon contents of coals in the Gumushane area range from 0.39-35.46 wt%, and in the Bayburt area range from 0.02-50.64 wt%. The Gumushane (except Güvercinlik field) and Bayburt areas coals have low hydrogen index values. The coal samples contain a mixture of Type II and Type III kerogens. Based on average Tmax values Liassic coals in the Gumushane and Bayburt (except Cerci field) areas are mature, and potential yields are low.

- MakaleYalnız künye2013Scopus SJRQ2Organic geochemical characteristics and depositional environments of the eocene deposits in the eastern black sea region, NE Turkey
Eker, C.S.
Type of organic material, thermal maturity, depositional environment, and source rock potential of Eocene aged clastic rocks of the Eastern Black Sea Region were investigated. Based on total organic carbon values, clastic rocks range from weak-good source rock. Samples contain a mixture of Type I-Type III kerogen. Based on T max values, Eocene aged clastic rocks were thermally mature. Moretane/hopane ratio of samples <0.15, 22S/(22S + 22R) homohopane (C32), and 20S/(20S + 20R) sterane (C29) maturity parameters were equal or very close to equilibrium value of oil generation. The deposition environment was transitional marine environment and clastic rocks do not have the potential to form hydrocarbon.

- MakaleYalnız künye2012Scopus SJRQ2Performance and emission studies of castor bean (Ricinus Communis) oil biodiesel and its blends with diesel fuel
Özcanli, M.; Serin, H.; Saribiyik, O.Y.; Aydin, K.; Serin, S.
An experimental study was conducted to evaluate the use of various blends of castor (Ricinus Communis) oil methyl ester with diesel fuel. Performance and exhaust emissions of castor oil biodiesel with diesel fuel in a commercial compression ignition engine were presented in this study. Biodiesel produced from castor oil was blended with diesel fuel at the volumetric ratios of 5% (B5), 10% (B10), 25% (B25), 50% (B50), and 100% (B100). Fuel properties of castor oil methyl ester and its blends with diesel fuel were stated. The performance results showed that blends of castor oil methyl ester with diesel provided an increase on brake specific fuel consumption and a small decrease on brake power output. Compared with diesel fuel, diesel-castor oil methyl ester blends showed that while the carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide emissions became reduced; the oxides of nitrogen emissions observed higher than diesel fuel emission characteristics. Test results showed that B25 was determined as a suitable alternative fuel for diesel engines.

- MakaleYalnız künye2008Scopus SJRQ2Source rock characteristics and hydrocarbon potential of the late cretaceous deposits in the eastern black sea region, NE Turkey
Saydam, C.; Korkmaz, S.
In this article, source rock characteristics and hydrocarbon potential of the late Cretaceous turbidite sequences in the eastern Black Sea region were investigated. The total average organic carbon (TOC) contents of sequences in Trabzon, Gümüshane, Giresun, and Erzurum are 0.06, 0.18, 0.12, and 0.30 wt%, respectively. In addition, low potential yield (PY), low hydrogen index (HI), and very high oxygen index (OI) values were calculated for these sequences. On the basis of Tmax values, most of sequences are thermally immature, and only some parts are mature and over-mature. Sequences generally contain residual organic matter and lesser amounts of type III kerogen. CPI values higher than 1, n-alkane distributions with high carbon numbers, and type III kerogen content indicate that organic matter has a terrestrial origin. The Pr/Ph ratios calculated as 1.10 and 2.15 for the Mescitli section of the Gümüshane region and the Tortum section of the Erzurum region reveal that the Mescitli section was deposited in a suboxic environment, while the Tortum section was in an oxic environment. According to these data, late Cretaceous sequences show weak source rock characteristics.
