The spring triticale cultivars Aysehanim and Mehmetbey (X Triticosecale Wittm.) were developed by Agricultural Research Station of The Eastern Mediterranean Transition Zone and they had been registered by Variety Registration and Seed Certification Center in Turkey. In this experiment, some characteristics of two new varieties were studied. The experiments were conducted at four locations of the Eastern Mediterranean Transition Zone in Turkey with three check triticale cultivars (Egeyildizi, Taceddinbey and Focus) under rain-fed conditions during the 2009 – 2010 and 2010 – 2011 growing seasons. The locations were Kahramanmaras, Adana and Hatay provinces and Ceyhan town. The genotypes were tested for agronomic, quality and botanical characteristics. Also, resistance of some cereal disease and lodging of the genotypes were determined. Aysehanim and Mehmetbey cv. had good adaptation and agronomic performance in the Eastern Mediterranean Transition Zone. The grain yields of Aysehanim and Mehmetbey cv. were 6459 and 6387 kg ha-1, respectively, and these values were significantly higher than the grain yields of Egeyildizi and Focus check cultivars, 5916 and 4919 kg ha-1, respectively. The cultivars had acceptable quality traits compared to the check cultivars. While their hectolitre weights and 1000 kernel weights were higher than the averages of check cultivars, protein content was not higher than those of the checks. Aysehanim and Mehmetbey cv. had good resistance for rust disease and lodging.

Effects of sister line mixtures on grain yield and some quality parameters in wheat

    Yildirim, Mustafa; Cakmak, Mustafa

This study examined grain yield and grain quality (protein content, 1000 kernel weight, SDS sedimentation) of 100 wheat plant materials including 4 varieties (Gerek, Aytin, Kutluk and Kirac), 6 sister line mixtures (with each mixture consisting of 15 sister lines per diallel cross) and 90 F7 sister lines (6 crosses x 15 sister lines). In total, 100 different plant materials were used in a 10 x 10 lattice design. Plant material was sown during the 2006- 2007 growing season in two locations in Turkey (Eskisehir and Mahmudiye) with three replications per location. Analysis of variance of the combined locations found significant differences (p≤0.01) between locations and among genotypes for all 4 parameters examined. Grain yield varied significantly (p≤0.01) by block [replication] in Eskisehir and by variety in both Eskisehir and Mahmudiye. Mean grain yields at Eskisehir, Mahmudiye and the combined locations were higher for sister-line mixtures when compared to sister lines and varieties. Mean grain yields of the combined locations varied between 5125 kg ha-1 (GRK/AYT) and 2764 kg ha-1 (GRK/KRC-9). Significant differences (p≤0.05) in SDS sedimentation of plant materials were found at both Eskisehir and Mahmudiye, whereas significant differences (p≤0.05) in 1000 kernel weight and protein composition were found at Eskisehir only. In high-variety vigor, significant difference (p≤0.05) was detected for protein content at AYT/KRC (-6.8) among the sister-line mixtures in the combined locations. These results suggest that a good mixture of sister lines may result in higher grain yields. Further studies are required that look at grain yields among a greater number of sister lines.

International agreements have been changed in the environmental approaches to protection and planning systems. It is one of the changing forestry activities that multi-purpose planning and decision-making techniques. In addition, the Model Forest Networks has been aimed to share more beautiful forest environments for future generations. Forestry activities into model forests have been integrated to change to different concepts. International Model Forest Network wants to ensure that people ensuring the development of economic and socio-cultural field, and the sustainable management of the environment. Yalova has been accepted for membership of the model forest network in 2011. It is described to occurring in the process of accession to the model forest stages. Model forest area covers in the province of Yalova. The forests in Yalova have been targeted by the operation such as economic, ecological, and socio-cultural services and values. In this sense to model forest, it can be counted income sources not only the production of wood and non-wood products but also eco-tourism, thermal tourism, local markets and beekeeping activities exhibited cultural values. The promotion of all activities in the international arena is great to contribute to related forest sectors including creation of market conditions, sociological, economic and ecological sense. The first approach to model forest network prepared the strategic plan for the operation of participatory approaches. Creation of strategic plans in model forest will be reached more easily to determine all targets. Since we identified deficiencies of for planning in the model forests, we will be more reliable to prepare ecosystem-based multi-purpose forests plans. If the model forest applications are protected natural ecosystem, this model forest network will continue to be spread in Turkey and the world.
