Vural, Alaaddin; Corumluoglu, Özsen; Asri, Ibrahim
This study examines the determination and confirmation of mineral deposits in the Gumushane Province,Turkey. Rather than using classical techniques, Remote Sensing (RS) and Geographic Information System GIS technologies are applied for this purpose. Mineral alteration traces on the ground are characteristic indicators of ore below the surface. These traces can be determined using RS techniques. The Crosta technique is one of the most important RS image analysis methods used for the determination of mineral alterations. The technique has shown particular usefulness around mine areas, which are rich in ore deposits and show hydrothermal alterations. Therefore, four separate mine fields covering a total area of 718 km2 in the southern part of Gumushane, which is rich in iron oxides, hydroxides and hydrothermal alteration, were chosen. The Crosta technique was applied to the satellite image of each area to explore the regional alterations. The determined locations could be confirmed as alteration areas. Within these four regions, some other locations showing similar alteration patterns were also determined using the Crosta technique. These locations represent good candidates for mineral exploration.

Kula Region (Manisa, Turkey), with its 80 volcanic cones, lava flows, basalt plateaus and basalt columns, fairy chimney formations in canyons carved by the Gediz River, shelter cities hidden in volcanic lava, footprint fossils belonging to the first humans, and geological uniqueness, has a great importance in terms of geotourism potential as it is being a natural heritage in the Aegean region of Anatolia. In this study, some remote sensing image processing techniques such as band combination, band rationing, and principal component analyses were used to depict the cultural and natural geosite known as Kula basalts in Turkey. Satellite images utilized here in this study were Landsat band images (band 1 to band 7). Principal component analyses (PCA) were performed on the first ratio group with 5/4, 5/1, and 3/7 bands and then on the second ratio group with 3/1, 4/5, and 3/2 bands. As a conclusion and outcome of this PCA, it was found that red, green, and blue (RGB) composite with PC1 and PC3 gray-level images from the first ratio group and PC2 gray-level image from the second group showed up the basalt areas better than those from other techniques studied in this research. After unsupervised classification of this final composite of PCA, it is computed that the basalt rocks in Kula cover an area of 36,774 ha totally.

In this study, semi-automatic region-based digital image processing techniques were used to create 3-dimensional (3D) virtual model of talus bone. 5 ballerinas and 5 sedentary women have voluntarily been involved in to the study. Total 20 right and left feet have been used which have been taken from the multidetector computed tomography (MDCT). We used 3D Doctor Software in this research. Image preprocessing, segmentation and 3D modeling steps were done respectively. Volume, area and length based various statistical ratios were computed according to the measurements. The comparisons have been accomplished by using these ratios for sedentary and ballerinas. As an outcome, some differences were found in talus of ballerina and sedentary women. We hope that the results from the biometric and reconstructive techniques carried out in this study will contribute to the present knowledge in orthopedics and digital image processing in this area.
- BildiriYalnız künye2012Using 3D models from multidetector computed tomography images for diagnostic of Hallux-valgus
Catal, Hatice; Corumluoglu, Ozsen
Medical image processing techniques is often used in medicine or some engineering fields. In this study, we used basic techniques of metric digital image processing. Axial MDCT (Multidetector Computed Tomography) Ballerina's feet images were used to form 3D models by 3D-Doctor software. The virtual 3D models are in high accuracy. Hallux-valgus angles were calculated and recorded by using these 3D virtual models. We hope that the results from the biometric and reconstructive techniques carried out in this work will contribute to the present knowledge in medicine especially on ballerina's foot health and digital image processing in this area.

Catal, Hatice; Corumluoglu, Ozsen
In this research, digital image processing techniques was used to create 3-dimensional (3D) virtual model of sesamoid bones. As study materials, Ballerina's and sedentary women's axial MDCT (Multidetector Computed Tomography) feet images were utilized. For the determination bone boundaries in each slides, image preprocessing and then segmentation steps were followed. All these processing steps was done in 3DDoctor software. All the measurements were obtained over the 3D model formed. Various statistical ratios were computed regarding the area, volume and length measurements. The comparison done in the study was performed by using these ratios for sedentary and ballerinas. As an outcome, some differences were found in sesamoid bones of ballerina and sedentary women.
- MakaleYalnız künye2010Wall traverse with GPSSIT and 3D positioning of urban details
Corumluoglu, Ozsen
In an urban environment, sometimes surveying becomes a very hard task, especially measuring some certain points or details on the ground that are surrounded by obstacles such as trees, fences or buildings. On the other hand, in such areas, survey points installed as references on the ground can easily be lost because of city activities. Wall traverse supported by GPSSIT (GPS Sanal Istasyon Teknigi - GPS Virtual Point Technique) and relying on freely chosen Sanal Istasyon Noktalari (SINs) or - virtual points (VIPs) without worrying about installing any control point on the ground provide a reliable resolution. In this study, establishment of wall traverse points by the support of GPSSIT and TS (GPSSIT and total station) and a detail measurement technique with 3D coordinates using these wall points were introduced and applied in a sample area. As a conclusion, standard deviations were found as mp = ± 4.53 cm and mH = ± 3.85 cm in position and height respectively for details.
