Microwave-assisted green synthesis of gold nanoparticles using MAE-derived aqueous Rubuscaesius L. Fruit extract: characterization and UV–Vis spectral stability

Serdar, Gönül; Serdaroğlu, Vildan; Keşi̇r, Melek Koç; Kokoç, Memnune; Terzi̇oğlu, Salih

Gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) were synthesized through a microwave-assisted green route using an MAE-derived aqueous Rubus caesius L. fruit extract as a natural reducing and stabilizing medium. The effects of precursor concentration, extract volume, and microwave power were systematically evaluated within the tested experimental range. The combination of 0.075 mM HAuCl₄0.3 H₂O, 0.4 mL fruit extract, and 180 W microwave irradiation produced the most distinct and symmetric surface plasmon resonance response. FT-IR analysis suggested that oxygen-containing functional groups in the extract may have contributed to Au³⁺ reduction and AuNP surface stabilization. TEM analysis revealed spherical, triangular, and hexagonal nanoparticles with an average core size of 11.6 ± 3.2 nm. DLS showed a hydrodynamic diameter of 71.92 ± 4.12 nm and a polydispersity index of 0.425, while the near-neutral zeta potential indicated limited colloidal stability. UV–Vis monitoring showed that the RC-AuNPs largely retained their spectral characteristics for up to 45 days. The synthesized nanoparticles exhibited a core size comparable to previously reported Rubus-mediated AuNPs. The specific contribution of this study is the use of an MAE-derived aqueous R. caesius L. fruit extract together with the systematic evaluation of key synthesis parameters affecting AuNP formation, optical response, and colloidal behavior.

The psychological consequences of 6 February 2023 Kahramanmaraş earthquakes

    Kiymis, Ibrahim; Fakioglu, Merve

The Kahramanmaraş earthquakes (2023) are the largest and most destructive earthquakes witnessed in the era of the Republic of Turkey. Earthquakes lead to serious mental health disorders (MHD) such as Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) in individuals. Earthquakes that cause significant death and injury on a large scale, such as the Kahramanmaraş earthquakes, can result in various mental health disorders. Therefore, the aim of the study was to examine the effects of variables such as PTSD, event impact, psychological resilience, depression, and anxiety levels on adult earthquake survivors affected by the Kahramanmaraş earthquakes, using a quantitative research approach with survey techniques. A total of 662 earthquake survivors were reached. The effect of variables on each other was analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). According to the findings of the study, event impact had a significant and positive effect on PTSD (β = 0.780, p = 0.000). Unexpectedly, resilience did not have a significant effect on PTSD (β=-0.04, p > 0.05). PTSD had a significant and positive effect on anxiety (β = 0.936, p = 0.000) and depression (β = 0.643, p = 0.000). Consequently, event impact’s severity increased PTSD, which in turn led to anxiety and depression. Surprisingly, psychological resilience did not serve as a protective factor against PTSD. For future research, it is recommended to examine psychological resilience with different event types, on different sample groups, and using more comprehensive and varied methods.

The effect of disaster resilience and trauma exposure on PTSD, depression, and sleep disorder among healthcare workers involved in the Kahramanmaraş Earthquakes (2023): a structural equation model

    Kiymis, Ibrahim; Yuce, Damla Nur

Healthcare workers (HCWs) serve as the cornerstone of health services, which are among the primary needs during disasters. The chaotic environment caused by disasters can lead to mental health disorders in HCWs, similar to those experienced by disaster victims. Experiencing mental health disorders can hinder HCW’s professional approach to intervention. HCWs should not be overlooked for the possibility of experiencing mental health disorders while providing healthcare services during disasters. Therefore, this study aims to examine the impact of psychological resilience and trauma exposure on PTSD, depression, and sleep disorders among HCWs involved in the Kahramanmaraş Earthquakes, which were Turkey’s most devastating earthquakes. In this quantitative research, a survey technique was employed, reaching 642 hCWs involved in the Kahramanmaraş Earthquakes. Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) was used to test the impact of variables on each other. According to the SEM results, trauma exposure in the HCWs had a significant and positive effect on PTSD (β=+0.899, p = 0.000), depression (β=+0.685, p = 0.000), and sleep disorders (β=+0.603, p = 0.000). Psychological resilience had a significant and negative effect on PTSD (β=−0.278, p = 0.004) and depression (β=−0.322, p = 0.008). Surprisingly, psychological resilience had a significant and positive effect on sleep disorders (β=+0.692, p = 0.000). In conclusion, while trauma exposure led to PTSD, depression, and sleep disorders in the HCWs, psychological resilience mitigated PTSD and depression. Unexpectedly, psychological resilience increased sleep disorders. For this reason, it is recommended that future studies investigate in detail the reasons why HCWs experience sleep disorders and examine them in depth.

Tatbikatlar her yıl aynı senaryoya dayanmamalıdır.
